2017 Season

1 Adel Another enticing matchup against Eddie Betts, but lost out once again. 5
2 GCS Spent a lot of time free in the back half and had some handy touches, but wasn’t overly prolific. 5
3 NM Well on top of Thomas in a spirited duel, although subdued in his output after half time. 5
4 Port Matched up on Gray, but injured ankle in third term and returned up forward. Got in the face of Clurey late, which wasn’t needed. 6
5 Syd Tended to play deeper in defence than usual but kept a tight rein on Papley and others. 6
6 WB Took Suckling and again was a prominent performer with his guile in the back half. Just did what was required when needed. 7
7 StK Veteran rebounder did plenty of damage. Couple of errors in third term were costly. Ended night with 30 possessions. 7
8 Coll At sea in first term as Elliott and Fasolo used their marking prowess but freed up by the Magpie “spitter” after quarter time. 4
9 Rich Okay down back defensively on Lloyd and gave some drive. 6
10 WCE Performed well and ran to give the team options. 6
11 Ess Won the ball well down back, but also made a few little errors. Okay, but not his absolute best. 6
12 Carl Yelled and screamed his way through the afternoon. Mixed good and bad but gather usual tally of touches. 6

14 Bris Quite night for the lively defender, not that it mattered. 4
15 Geel Gave some cheek down back and was handy in final term when the game got super tense. 7
16 Haw With no Zac Williams got more of the ball – had 10 in the first quarter. Crucial spoil late on the dangerous Breust. 7
17 Syd His tackling and spoiling was a highlight early, but well contained despite 23 disposals. 5
18 Rich Veteran waved and screamed his way through the afternoon. Tried hard and did what he could given side was under siege. 7
19 Frem Was moved into the forward line in the last quarter, where he was ok. Very minimal impact on the day, though. 4
20 Melb Manhandled Garlett all day to keep the ex-Blue scoreless. Reads the play so so well. 8
21 WB Dunkley and others played defensively on him. Gave usual amount of lip to teammates and opponents. 5
22 WCE Played as the loose man back and was able to repel numerous Eagle attacks. Goal saving tackle late on Cripps. 6
23 Geel Half-back was never allowed to dictate the game from defence; 14 possessions and couple of clangers. 4
QF Adel Huge job on Betts and although he got a bit of the ball early, had his pants pulled down by the Crows maestro. 4
SF WCE Niggled away at Cripps and LeCras and was fair down back, but didn’t have a great deal to do. 5
PF Rich Veteran defender did what he could from the back half; 22 disposals and six marks. 6

2016 Season

1 Melb Uncharacteristically missed targets, including one howler that cost a goal. 5
2 Geel Made one horrible error. Kersten tried to niggle him off his game. Quiet by his standards. 4
3 Syd Set up a lot of the Giants play out of the defensive half with 10 rebound-50s. 7
4 Port Cleared the ball six times out of defence and took 10 marks. 5
5 StK St Kilda found it nigh on impossible to get past him. Superb defensively and set up numerous attacks. 8
6 Haw Good again in the back half. Just reads the play so well coming in and set up countless attacks. 7
7 Frem Led the backline and was one of the better performers. Composed. 7
8 GCS Rarely wastes a disposal out of defence and was able to break the lines with seven rebound-50s. 8
9 WB Clinical performance roaming around the back half with a staggering 36 kicks and 14 rebounds. 10
10 Adel Great as the plus-one, but struggled to stop Betts when matched one on one. 6
11 Geel Apart from third term Cats did a reasonable job making him accountable. Didn’t control game. 6
12 Syd Provided quality rebound of defence and three of his 10 marks were contested. 8
13 Ess Ball use off on occasions but in the end proved a key player with poise off half back. 7
14 Carl Impact in defensive half was nullified by White – really struggled to get involved. 4
16 Coll Closely checked by negating Macaffer and couldn’t generate attacks. 4
17 Bris Never overly worked and clean when under pressure. 5
18 Port Took Wingard out of the game and had 10 rebound-50s. 8
19 Rich Kept Rioli quiet and managed to find a heap of ball. 26 kicks, eight rebound-50s. 8
20 GCS Not as prolific as usual, and not as effective with the footy. 4
21 WCE Slow starter but got better as the game wore on without being at his absolute best. 6
22 Frem Played the general role with in the back half. Led from the front. 7
23 NM Didn’t allow Thomas/Anderson any room and was first-class with marshalling of defence. 8
QF Syd Constantly gained meterage running from half back and set tone for other backs. 7
PF WB Well restricted by Liberatore. Nine effective disposals and didn’t control backline. 4

2015 Season

1 StK Some timely spoils but Saad dragged him out of the play all day. 5
2 Melb Read play well at half back to provide support to fellow defenders. 7
3 Syd Ran hard to be an option out of defence and among the better Giants. 7
4 GCS Did what was needed down back and is relishing extra help in back half. 6
5 WCE Really good. Had 29 possessions and was always in the game. 7
6 Haw Provided good run out of defence and pressure was outstanding. 6
7 Carl Mopped up well down back when Blues actually got into attack. 6
8 Adel Stood Betts and whilst had troubles at times, his attack from defence was pivotal. 6
9 WB Big first quarter and 15 kicks to half time. Kept ticking over. 7
10 Bris A bit quieter this week but defensively was fairly solid. 6
11 Coll Interesting duel with Elliott. Kept him off scoreboard for much of day, rebounded well. 7
12 NM Kept Thomas goalless and racked up 30 possessions, 14 marks himself. 8
14 Rich Along with Griffen he played a key role in keeping the opposition at bay. 8
15 StK Consistent and fairly creative game running from half back. 6
16 GCS Controlled things from the back half. 7
17 Geel Team would have lost by a whole lot more if not for his performance. 8
18 Frem Looked badly injured but played on and led backline well with 31 touches. 8
19 Ess Provided rebound and drive from defence even when GWS were struggling. Star. 8
20 Port Played a fantastic game between the arcs. 7
21 Syd Giants’ best again in defence. Tried his best to hold Swans at bay. 7
22 Carl Continued fine season down back. Defended and attacked with aplomb. 7
23 Melb Made accountable by Harmes and wasn’t able to rebound as normal. 5

2014 Season

1 Syd Experience showed in calmness down back. 5
2 StK OK game off half back without starring. 5
3 Melb Once again was constant drive force running off half back. 7
4 WB Strong effort in the back half to be one of the Giants best. 7
5 Hamstring.
6 GCS Valuable experience across half back and got 29 possessions. 7
7 Port Eight one-percenters and five rebound 50s, is critical to the cause. 6
8 WCE Beaten in defence by LeCras and wasn’t able to set up attacking moves. 4
10 Rich Shadowed by Morris as a defensive forward and had his run limited. 5
11 Haw Gave plenty of drive down back. Did miss one soda goal. 7
12 Ess All but one of 31 disposals were kicks and worked well. 6
13 Bris Had to contend with negating Golby but was a source of drive. 7
14 Carl Provided excellent run out of defence in his battle with Ed Curnow. 7
15 Syd Copped a heavy hit from Tippett early and didn't return from concussion. 3
16 NEAFL Big improvement on last week. 25 possessions, two goals. -

19 Rich Provided drive off half back on return but was a touch loose defensively. 5
20 NM Freed up off half back and given lost of room. One of the Giants’ best. 7
21 Melb Provided steadying presence all over the field. Used ball well when he got it. 7
22 Coll Macaffer went to him until doing his knee. Wasn’t his best evening. 4
23 WB One of the Giants’ best in defence. Rebound and run set up early lead. 8

1 Ill.
2 Carl Moved from defence to a wing and had a big third term to sway momentum. 7
3 Haw Struggled all day to get into situations to create play from half back. 4
4 Rich Especially good when caught one-out against bigger opponents at times. 6
5 Ess Among best with five rebounds, eight contested poss and poise in the back half. 8
6 StK Brilliant first half was key when side under siege. Kept Milne to one goal. 8
7 Frem Huge start but Ballantyne got inside his head. Mixed brilliance with ill discipline. 6
8 Suspended.
9 Hamstring.
10 Bris Subdued first half when tagged but found more of it after main break. 5
11 Melb Rebounded brilliantly (14 disp first half). Class player all day. 6
12 WB Shook off Addison’s attentions. Continually cut off Dogs’ attacks 8
14 Port Had hands full with Monfries and provided little run out of defence. 3
15 Carl Had Betts and one mistake aside he was superb defending and attacking. 8
16 Adel Allowed himself to get frustrated with umpiring, cut through at times, made blues. 4
17 GCS Looked a little flustered after a good start; made some uncharacteristic errors. 5
18 GWS Barked instructions in defence then gave plenty of drive while keeping Smith quiet. 7
19 Ess Had Kommer covered and excellent defensively. Eight tackles. 7
20 Syd Lacked his usual impact off half back in a quiet performance. 4
21 Haw Just one touch in the first half and appeared frustrated with Whitecross’ attention. 3
22 WCE Interesting match-up on Darling for long periods and did the job brilliantly. 7
23 NM Took Thomas (three goals) and did a reasonable job stopping him. Not a lot of run. 5
EF Port Lost his temper again and cost team goals. Didn’t seem comfortable defending deep. 3

1 Haw Huge early then Bateman and Osborne nullified his influence. 5
2 Rich Jackson went to him early as negating forward. OK without starring. 5
3 Carl The Pies’ only source of defensive drive. Managed a goal too. 7
6 WB Kicked two goals, laid a key tackle and was a handy contributor on return. 7
7 Bris One of the best intercepting attacks and charging off half back. 8
8 Geel Patrolled defence as spare man and did it superbly – 11 intercepts. 8
9 Adel Struggled with a leg injury but soldiered on with a brave performance. 8
13 WCE Superb second half once moved from wing to his natural habitat – defence. 6
14 Frem Disposal count down but contributed something with four rebound 50s. 5
15 Carl Armfield played defensively on him. Worked hard nevertheless. 7
16 Geel Run and drive from the back half a key to the victory – 12 rebound 50s. 9
17 Haw Lewis not only contained him but kicked goals on him. Not a great day. 5
18 GWS Unhappy after the game but he was harsh on himself. 6
19 StK Closing speed and timely spoils were first class and critical in a tight game. 7
20 Syd Had an entertaining duel with Smith. 6
21 NM Outmarked by Hansen in goalsquare as Kangas made move in second. 5
22 WCE Solid in defence. The main avenue out of the backline. 6
23 Ess In 150th pitted against Stanton at bounce. Not a big night. Goaled late. 5
QF Haw Crunched first quarter. To wing in second term then forward. 5
SF WCE His willingness to attack was critical to defence. Rock solid all night. 7
PF Syd Brilliant early and ran tirelessly. 7
