2017 NAB Cup:

2017 Season

1 Haw Had 29 touches to play his role in midfield. Didn’t use the ball as well as we know he can. 7
2 Bris Used in defence, attack in the midfield and used his disposals with effect, even kicking a goal and having a hand in two others. 7
3 Carl Won a heap of ball (30 disposals), six clearances and seven tackles so certainly held up his end of the bargain. 7
4 Adel Essendon’s equal highest possession winner with Zach Merrett, won eight clearances and had three inside-50’s. 7
5 Coll Usual distributor’s contribution in midfield. Ability to hit targets increasingly important in the wet. 6
6 Melb Kicked the ball very well compared with most other players on the ground. 481 metres gained. 7
7 Frem Plenty of the ball. Had 25 disposals but 19 were in the first half. He tired. 7
8 Geel Won a lot of the ball but wasn’t a huge factor despite 23 disposals. Six tackles and three clearances. 7
9 WCE Steady game through midfield and floating at half back. A few ill-disciplined moments in final term. 7
10 Rich Two first-term goals and ended night with 28 disposals. First half much better than his second. One inside-50, three tackles. 7
11 GWS Steady outing in game 300. Used the ball beautifully, but just needed to get more of it. 6
12 Port Played his part with ball in hand. Rarely made a poor decision and bounced back in big win. 5
13 Bye.
14 Syd Not big numbers early on but a touch wasteful biting off a bit too much. Last-minute kick-out being smothered was a killer. 6
15 Bris Won 13 possessions in first quarter and was effective in back half. Didn’t have much say in last quarter. 6
16 Coll Patrolled wing/half back as he usually does; 23 disposals and 14 marks to keep the Pies at bay all afternoon. 8
17 StK Workman like game against his old club and apart from quiet second term was solid throughout 6
18 NM 17 of his 25 disposals were uncontested as per usual. Steady user off half back. 7
19 WB Started on a wing on Johannissen, then used at half back. Kicked the ball well, and was a handy contributor. 7
20 Carl Made a few blues with skill and decision-making that is costly because he tries to bite off more than his mouth can handle. 5
21 Adel Strong and prolific first half based on wing and kept on winning the ball. 7
22 GCS Afforded plenty of freedom in defence and made the Suns pay, with 25 possessions and 14 marks. 7
23 Frem Allowed to roam free at half back all afternoon and racked up the touches. 8
EF Syd Played loose as a defender and while won plenty of the ball he didn’t hurt Swans’ often enough. 6

2016 Season

1 GCS Got plenty of the footy but appeared to be hampered or lethargic. 6
2 Melb Won usual share of ball but importantly got involved in forward of centre chains. Three clearances. 7
3 Port Took mark of the day late in the fourth term and duly goaled. 6
4 Geel Won his share of ball but missed targets and not a huge factor. Just two clearances and three insde-50s. 5

6 Carl Plugged away in the middle and across half back. OK but not an enormous impact. 5
7 Syd Gave the Bombers plenty of drive and made good decisions. 6
8 NM Got a huge amount of the ball but didn’t hurt the Roos. Got a lot of cheapies. 5
9 StK High stats belied his influence. Had twice as many handballs as kicks, unusually for him. 5
10 Rich Racked up stats but many were at half back. Four inside-50s, five tackles and three clearances. 7
11 Frem One of the better players. Found the footy. 6
12 Haw Broken nose in opening seconds required extended attention. Battled on. 5
13 GWS Did what he could between the arcs. Six clearances and seven inside-50s a handy return. 7
15 WCE Won his own ball and tackled strongly. Led well. 6
16 StK Corked his hip early but recovered well and ran hard to feed low kicks to attack. 7
17 Rich Came off a wing to play role as fifth onballer. Directed traffic but conceded a silly 50m penalty. 6
18 Bris Rolled into middle off a wing to play as extra onballer. One of Essendon’s better performers. 7

11 WCE Kicked a goal but got most of his possessions through handball receives. 6
13 Haw Won a lot of footy between arcs but just two inside-50s and one score assist. 6
14 StK Unusually quiet and had no impact. 2
15 Melb Back to best. Worked tirelessly for a team-high nine clearances. 8
16 NM Standard game in terms of numbers. Had his energy up, especially early. 7
17 Port Chastised by captain Heppell for niggling Ryder but productive. 7
18 WB Battled hard playing behind the ball. Lacked support to be super effective. 6

2014 Season

1 NM Potent force with work-rate and powerful kicking. 8
2 Haw Roamed all over the place and was a real factor, particularly in second half. 8
3 Carl Spent more time forward and was a matchup nightmare. Should have booted five by half time. 8
