2017 Digest:   Father Time — and a string of injuries — mean there is not much tread left on tyres. Could be shuffled down the deck.

2017 NAB Cup:

2017 Season

1 Rich Tough to say it but looked a yard off the pace. One goal was a gimme over the top. 3
2 Melb Quiet first half but was ultra-important in third term surge. Worked his way back into form after recent criticism. 6
3 Ess Did his bit without getting overly excited. Did turn the ball over at times early in game but attacked every contest. 5
4 GCS Struggled at times to keep up with the fleet-footed Suns runners. Probably better on a slower deck at the MCG. 4
5 Soreness.
6 VFL 31 disposals, 14 contested possessions, seven clearances, six goal assists and a goal. Senior recall beckons. -
7 Coll One of his better days in navy blue, and didn’t he love kicking the sealer after a trademark sidestep. 6
8 StK Worked solidly but failed to have an offensive impact on the game. 5
9 Frem Kicked a great goal then suffered concussion and missed the second half. 3
10 Concussion.
11 Bye.
12 GWS Veteran playmaker showed some zip at times which was pleasing. Grabbed 19 disposals and nine score involvements. 6
13 GCS Booted two goals and was okay in attack without starring. 4
14 Rich Got a bit of the ball and managed to just get a kick away a few times when caught. Not the worst. 5
15 Adel Gave the Blues belief when he slotted home from 40 metres out on the run in the last term to give Carlton the lead. 6
16 Melb Missed some chances to make a mark and in the end only mustered nine effective disposals. 3
17 Calf.
18 Bris Spent a lot of time agitating the opposition. Should have concentrated more on finding the ball. 4
19 Geel Couldn’t get into the contest at all. Seven effective disposals, two inside-50s and three clearances. 2
20 Ess Handy effort highlighted by 22 possessions and three inside-50s. Played with a bit of a spark. 6
21 WCE Had plenty of the ball and his eight inside 50s gave the team a chance. 7
22 Haw Another leader who stood tall in the last term. Ran hard and his experience was crucial. 6
23 Syd May have played his last game. Tried pretty hard but the game has certainly gone past him. Kicking terrible. 4

2016 Season

1 Suspended.
2 Syd Close to the Blues’ best. Played arguably his most productive game for Carlton. 7
3 GCS Appears to be trying everything to turn it around, but it just isn't happening. 4
4 WB Shadow of the player of a few years ago. Five inside-50s and two clearances but not a huge impact. 5
5 Frem Booted three goals. Two were in the square. But goals and goals. 6
6 Ess Slowly getting back to his best. Grabbed 10 clearances, four inside-50s and a goal. 7
7 Coll Down race early with elbow issue. Returned though and played a strong role. Relished late goal. 6
8 Port Not big numbers but generally hit the target with his kicks playing off a wing. 5
9 NM First goal after courageous mark. Used a spare down back in third term. Handy but not his best. 5
10 Geel Not as prolific as some but helped keep wheels turning in the middle. 4
11 Bris Played on a wing and was relatively quiet. 4
12 StK Won his share of the ball and kept going all day without causing great damage. 4
14 GWS Significantly faded after a promising start on the wing. 3
15 Coll Worked hard at the coal face with a team-high six clearances and 10 CPs. 6
16 Adel Struggling until injury ended his day very late and hobbled to rooms. 3
17 Calf.
18 Calf.
19 Calf.
20 StK Looked to be running on a treadmill at times and was more interested in pushing and shoving. 4
21 Bris Used his speed to show up Taylor. Best work in last quarter during comeback. 6
22 Melb Played on a wing and struggled to get involved in first half. Slight better after main break. 4
23 Ess A 200th game to forget. Disposal was terrible. 3

2014 Season

1 Port Tried hard but lacked a little zip. Missed a sitter in third, among others. 5
2 Rich Came into his own in third quarter surge. Put quieteners on Cotchin. 7
3 Ess Apart from one brilliant tap to Murphy he was largely a non-factor. 4
4 Melb Injured shoulder early and while returned never looked comfortable. Impact nil. 4
5 WB Picken went with him at start. Worked hard and kicked trademark goal. 6
6 WCE Showed some good signs. There was bounce in his game again. 5
7 Coll Flummed first shot. Quiet and jeered all night. Fitness appears lacking. 3
8 StK Used permanent forward and apart from one great goal he didn’t give a yelp. 2
10 Adel Best game for club. Gave team a rev at three-quarter time and goaled late. 6
11 Bris On Paparone. Busted gut but not having sustained effect on games. 5
12 Geel Three goals despite copping heavy knock early. Made most of opportunities. 7
13 Haw Couple of flashes of class and one goal but generally well quiet. 4
14 GWS Kicked two goals and claimed seven marks in a reasonable performance. 6
15 Coll Worked hard but not much came his way. One goal but just one inside-50. 4
16 StK Savage began on him then Newnes. Good work-rate as ever and was solid. 5
17 Syd The once-mighty Thomas is a shadow of his former self right now. 4
18 NM Off for treatment early. Worked hard without impact. 4
19 Frem Best game for club? All over the field and played with a poise we haven’t seen. 8
20 GCS Finding best form at last. Roamed across half back and racked them up. 8
21 Geel Injured knee early and was on and off until night ended in final term. 1

5 Ess Still well underdone and while he had a bit of footy his impact not huge. 5
6 StK Getting back to his best. Spent a lot of time in defence and mopped up well. 8

2012 Season

Played for : Collingwood

1 Haw Didn’t have a kick first term and only got going late. Better after half time. 5
2 Rich Little influence early but brilliant third term set Magpies on right course. 7
3 Carl Back to form of two years ago – burning opportunities and turning it over. 5
8 Geel Struggled to get into the game on his return, although his stats were fair. 4
9 Adel Curtailed the inform Dangerfield and aced the last quarter. 8
10 GCS Among the best with 20 contested possessions, three goals and 11 clearances. 9
11 Melb Tagged by McKenzie and hence his numbers were down on usual output. 6
13 WCE Contested hard as ever; six tackles, but rarely found time and space. 6
14 Frem Really dangerous forward of centre and provided a target inside forward 50. 8
15 Carl Massive first half helped keep side in it then foot injury slowed him up. 7
16 Geel Foot might have been worrying him but good enough to kick three goals. 6
17 Haw Foot injury must be limiting him. Lacked the zip of a month ago. Rest him. 5
19 StK His goal late was one out of the box. Ended with 2.3 and was dangerous. 8
20 Syd Looked ready for a good night before injuring his right leg in the first term. 2
21 NM Battled hard for his 27 possessions to be in best. 6
22 WCE Had his moments but not influential enough. 5
23 Ess Steady and productive all the way. 7
QF Haw Helped lift Magpies in second term, but must still be carrying foot injury. 4
SF WCE Three goals, including two in a minute in third term, proved critical. 7
PF Syd Worked hard to get into it, marked well, but possessions not incisive. 5
