2016 Season

1	Port	Won a game-high 19 contested possessions, and 14 clearances.	7
2	WB	Won 11 contested possessions to lead the Saints in the clinches. Tried hard.	6
3	Coll	Looked sluggish at times but when side got on top he provided some impetus. Key goal in third term.	6
4	Haw	Slow start but got legs pumping in final three quarters to nearly will Saints over the line.	7
5	GWS	Worked hard but not always as incisive with the foot as he can be.	6
6	Melb	Strong game even though he copped a cork thigh.	7
7	NM	His game was solid but seems to be struggling to create in the way he did last year.	5
8	WCE	In the wars again with another head knock.	4
9	Ess	Kept pumping away in midfield and tackled strongly. Generally used it well.	6
10	Frem	A good start but then two flat quarters before inspiring 13-touch final term.	8
11	Adel	Not prominent early but tried to exert some influence on the game in third term.	6
12	Carl	Not a major influence early but lifted. Had heavy workload and will welcome bye.	5
14	Geel	Generally with Selwood and had more negative role than normal. Knock to calf.	6
15	GCS	Shoulder to shoulder with Ablett at opening bounce. Down in form at the moment.	3
16	Ess	Hasn’t been in great form lately but willed himself to make an impact.	5
17	Melb	Strove hard in middle and tackled hard, but looks below early season form.	5

19	NM	Off the boil and not as incisive as usual. Could be carrying an injury.	4
20	Carl	Strong and effective in midfield and also applied great pressure.	6
21	Syd	Troubled by injury around the knee but kept on going hard in the middle.	6

2	GCS	Terrific game – huge second quarter was instrumental in victory.	8

4	Carl	Tagged by Carrazzo. OK except for quiet third term.	5
5	Ess	Has played the best footy of his career this year and was excellent all day.	8
6	WB	Enormous effort. Willed his team forward even when things were bleak. 45 disp.	9
7	Adel	Stepped up when his team needed him to, led from the front.	7
8	WCE	Acting captain continued his terrific form.	7
9	Bris	Crucial in initial fightback and good all day until reined in by O’Brien.	8
10	Haw	Tackled hard, ran through lines and continued excellent form.	7
11	Melb	Contributed in intriguing battle with Vince who came out on top overall.	5
13	WB	Usual hard-working game in the middle and gave everything.	7
14	Ess	Once again had a stunning game and Essendon couldn’t stop him.	8
15	GWS	Didn’t get it easy against Coniglio. Not as dominant as recently.	5
16	Rich	Continued strong form in midfield.	7
17	Melb	Kept grinding away in first half. Hurt shin in opening minute of third term.	6
18	Port	On Wines at first. Had a quiet third term and reined in after good first half.	6
19	Frem	Generally contained by Freo and ended up copping corked thigh.	6
20	NM	At his best in first half but still effective later on.	7

1	GCS	Saint’s best player and looks to be on track to take bigger role in midfield.	7

5	Syd	Had a much quieter night than recent games.	3
6	Coll	Ran hard and competed strongly but usage of the ball was below par.	6
7	Carl	Solid first half without dominating. Bored in all night.	5
8	Adel	Steady without starring. Kicked ripper goal.	5

10	NM	Came into it after half time but didn’t touch it early.	5
11	WCE	Fierce tackling and plenty of touches. One of the Saints best.	7

15	Frem	Strong display included one mighty run that set up goal.	7
16	Carl	Constantly bored in and always hard at the contest.	7
17	Port	Strong til three quarter time but dazed by heavy hit late in the day.	6

19	Bris	Toss up whether he or Montagna was Saints’ best. One of his best games.	8
