2017 Season

1 GCS Had the better of Witts around the ground, although the ruck battle was closely fought out. 7
2 Ess Massive third term when he had three centre clearances and 15 hit outs to spark the Lions gallant fightback. 7
3 StK Got the better of matchup with Hickey in the ruck. Gave great service at stoppages and followed up at ground level. 8
4 Rich Dominated the ruck, with more than 50 hit-outs, often giving his teammates first use of the ball. 7
5 WB Rucked brilliantly all day and one of the reasons why the side was able to match the Dogs throughout. 8
6 Port Good battle with Ryder though let himself down with sloppy disposal. 6
7 Syd Lowered colors to Swans big men early, but then fought back to get the upperhand. Ran the game out strongly. 7
8 Haw Dominated with 63 hit outs but didn’t give his usual output around the ground. Only one mark and 13 disposals. 7
9 Adel Did his bit by taking it up to Jacobs in the ruck but could have been more effective in general play. 5
10 Coll Beaten in the ruck by Grundy. Tried hard but fumbled marks and didn’t make presence felt around the ball. 5
11 Bye.
12 Frem Played a leading role in helping the Lions win the centre clearances, 17-10. Also outclassed Griffin in general play. 7
13 Port Well beaten in the ruck, lacked a spring in his jump to compete against Paddy Ryder. 5
14 GWS Workman like effort and again his ‘in general play’ work was better than his opponent’s. 6
15 Ess Strong finish to the game after good ruck battle with Bellchambers. 6
16 Geel Solid in the ruck but outplayed in general play by Smith. 6
17 Rich Broke even in ruck duels with Tiger talls. Got a bit of the ball, but not his best. 6
18 Carl Not only had the better of Kreuzer, but his work in general play (19 disposals) was notable. 7
19 WCE Did a good job in the ruck. Won the majority if hit-outs and contested well. 7
20 WB Won the ruck duel but not that influential in general play. 5
21 GCS May have broken even in hit-outs but showed his worth in general play with 23 disposals. 7
22 Melb Beat Gawn in the ruck and was a key to helping the side get the ball moving out of the centre. 7
23 NM He and Goldstein virtually cancelled each other out in ruck battle. 5

2016 Season

1 WCE Couldn’t stop Naitanui’s ruckwork but did pretty well as a ball winner. 6
2 NM Broke even with Goldstein, which is no mean feat. 5
3 Geel Ten hit-outs to advantage and battled hard but rarely hurt the Cats. 5
4 GCS Having a major say until flattened by May before half time. Didn’t return. 4
5 WB OK in ruck but not at his typical high standard after concussion last week. 6
6 Syd Brought down with friendly in second term. Lone hand in the ruck, as usual. 6

8 Coll Put some midfield teammates to shame with his desire to chase. Big effort. 7
9 Melb Didn’t influence the game in the ruck or up forward. Just struggling at the moment. 4
10 Haw Ruck work was OK, but had no influence around the ground. 3
11 Carl With West gave Lions first use out of the middle. Eight marks. 7
12 Frem Looks a shadow of his best post concussion, not in sync with dual ruck set-up. 2
13 WCE Never gave up and dominated the ruck work with a massive 52 hit-outs. 7
14 Rich Hampson had his measure early but gradually got on top around the ground to play a good role. 7

2 NM Started in attack on Tippett. Shouldered ruck load and battled along. 6

13 Adel Really gave the Lions something to aim for across half forward. 8
14 Suspended.
15 Suspended.
16 Melb Made mistakes and failed to match Gawn when in the ruck. 4
17 NM Lion-hearted effort rucking in tandem against Goldstein. 7

19 GCS Powerhouse, lone-hand performance in the ruck. 8
20 Carl Got the better of Kreuzer in the air and in general play. 8
21 Adel Lions must do what they can to keep him, their best big man in ruck. 8
22 Haw Climbed over Hale and McEvoy early in ruck then was solid after that. 7
23 WB With 50 hit outs and 32 disposals, worth three Brownlow votes. 9
