2017 Digest:   A gem that did all that was asked of him in 2016. Sophomore year will be harder as sides look for holes in his game.

2017 NAB Cup:

2017 Season

1 Rich Copped a knock early but kicked three goals in great battle with Tiger star Rance. 6
2 Melb Not as influential in front half as he was in Round 1. Goalless, but used his body smartly a few times to protect teammates. 5
3 Ess Missed easy goal early then copped big hit in second term and left field. Returned but he didn’t get into the game in wet conditions. 2
4 GCS Aside from a goal, ineffective in attack, then shifted back to try to curb Lynch’s impact. Fair at best. 4
5 Port Lumbering performance, the footy hardly made it forward but when it did he didn’t make a contest. 3
6 Syd Started brilliantly but was hampered by a thigh injury as the game dragged on. One goal in third term kept pressure on Swans. 6
7 Coll Played forward and managed one goal but rarely sighted. 3
8 StK Kicked the first goal of the game but was well beaten by the more experienced Jake Carlisle. 4
9 Frem Played on despite being in pain with his shoulder. Worked hard. 5
10 NM Made a mistake early, which gifted North a goal, but hit back hard to keep the dangerous Brown to just one goal. 6
11 Bye.
12 GWS Used in defence on Himmelberg and had him covered. Not huge offensively but certainly played his part. 6
13 GCS Nullified Wright and looked to run off at every opportunity. 6
14 Rich Used down back and was okay, but hasn’t hit the heights of his first season at any stage this year. 5
15 Adel Stretched Adelaide wide when Carlton had the footy deep in defence taking some telling marks out on the wings. 6
16 Melb Key defender had some problems with McDonald but kept battling. Still able to contribute despite McDonald playing well. 5
17 WB Looked a little off for whatever reason. Have to remember he is still only 19 years of age. 4
18 Bris Returned just five disposals. At least they were with 100 per cent efficiency and he did have some effect guarding Schache. 4
19 Geel Had Buzza and Hawkins on occasions and found the going tough. Three possessions for the night. 1
20 Ess Hooker caused his a few issues all day. Only inaccurate kicking saved him from having six kicked on him. Just hit a flat patch. 4
21 WCE Solid performance against Jack Darling. Marked well too. 6
22 Haw Has found really good form in the last 3 games. Defended strongly and used the pill well. Far too good for Schoenmakers. 7
23 Syd Found some really good form late in the year. A big positive for Carlton moving forward. Good game. 7

2016 Season

1 Rich Steadying early touch and showed composure of a 100-gamer in back half. 6
2 Syd Another composed performance from the youngster. Moved forward late. 6
3 GCS Polished and composed across half back. Shining light for the Blues. 8
4 WB Found the going tough and effectiveness down on the opening three rounds. 4
5 Frem Good defensive effort without standing out like in previous games. 4
6 Ess Going well until badly damaged shoulder in second term and day was done. 2
7 Shoulder.
8 Shoulder.
9 NM Did good job on Petrie then had Goldstein when resting forward. A good learning experience. 4
10 Geel Copped a knock early but responded. Held up his end of the defensive structure. 5
11 Bris Big game. Took Schache to the cleaners and pulled down 14 grabs in the process. 8
12 StK Membrey beat him early and prompted a shift to the forward line. Quiet. 4
14 GWS Did well on Patton in first half and showed poise when under pressure. 5
15 Coll Form has tapered after a terrific start to his career. Copped a knock late. 3
16 Adel Jenkins got away from him at times but he also intercepted a few. All experience. 5
17 WCE Injured shin early but returned to play forward. Kicked two goals in good effort. 5
18 Syd Calm operator did well on Sydney’s resting ruckmen. 5
19 Haw Defended well. Copped a corky late which disrupted a useful afternoon. 6
20 StK Has had better days down back but will learn from the experience. 4
21 Bris Youngster who shows his class with a couple of impressive contested marks. Closed down Hipwood. 5
22 Melb Took Watts and kept him goalless. Read play well with ball coming into Dees attack. 6
23 Ess The youngster was easily his team’s best big defender. Took some nice grabs. 6
