1 Geel Impact not as pronounced as coach would have hoped. Ruck work good but very little around the ground. 5
2 Port Was frustrated by Paddy Ryder’s tactics and started giving away free kicks. 5
3 WB Dominated the hit outs but Freo didn’t control the clearances. 5
4 Melb Rucked pretty much solo all day; 53 hit-outs, three clearances and couple of big contested marks late. 7
5 NM Won a whopping 55 hit-outs. That gave Freo an advantage at clearances but North did well in congested situations. 7
6 WCE Dominated the hit outs but it didn’t give Freo a huge advantage. 5

2014 Season

1 Coll Dominated ruck duels. Once midfield started taking advantage Freo was unstoppable. 8
2 GCS Supreme dominance of the ruck with 58 hit-outs and simply unbeatable. 9
3 Haw Even the big man’s tap ascendancy made little difference. 5
4 Ess Controlled the ruck against Carlisle and Daniher as expected. 8
5 Syd Obliterated the hit-outs, but unable to do enough around the ground. 5
6 NM Dominated the ruck contests against Goldstein but was quiet around the ground. 5
7 WCE Clearly won the battle in the ruck and got plenty of it around the ground. 8
8 Port Dominated the hit outs but Port won the clearances. 6
9 Geel Monstered Cat duo – eight effective hit-outs and great presence. 8
11 WB Marked well in defence and kicked a goal in attack. Good ruck battle. 6
12 Adel Controlled ruck duels again and even threw in a Madden-like bouncing run. 8
13 Rich Nine hit-outs to advantage and some key marks late to steady the ship. 6
14 Bris Predictably dominate ruck duels and used handball well to bring others in. 7
15 WCE Controlled the ruck against Naitanui and Cox. Like Freo, going along beautifully. 7

17 GWS Smashed Mumford. 16 hit-outs to advantage and a goal kept midfield on top. 7

1 Geel Dominant early and finished with 32 hit outs and 19 touches. 7
2 Syd Dominated the hitouts and kicked one goal when too tall for the Swans. 7
3 Bris Won 54 out of a possible 84 hit outs. 7
4 StK Giant couldn’t be countered but small men didn’t take advantage. 7
7 Port Had 43 hit-outs and kicked a goal. Too big and strong. 7
8 Haw Freo ruck controlled ruck hit-outs but Hawthorn was able to shark the ball. 6
9 WCE Won hit outs but Freo lost clearances. 5
10 Adel Had 49 hitouts but Freo lost the clearances 30-53. 5
