2017 Season

1 WB Took Cloke at outset to try to stop him getting his tail up early. Seven marks but no great influence. 4
2 Rich Controlled the air at centre half back. Tiger forwards were reduced to taking improbable flies to counter he and Howe. 7
3 Syd Great duel with his brother in defence and took the points comfortably for much of the night. 10 marks. 8
4 StK Held the defence together with 11 marks and some accomplished kicking to position. 7
5 Ess Coolness at centre half back again important. Thrown forward late without impact. 6
6   Rested.  
7 Carl Gave Casboult a caning in general play with exemplary positioning at centre half back. 12 marks, 20 kicks a good day out. 8
8 GWS Started forward to take pressure off Moore. Just one goal but always looked a threat. 5

14 Port Key defender struggled at tad and was moved forward in second half in an attempt to give a lift. One goal. 5
15 VFL Too good for the VFL. Nine marks, 20 possessions and a goal. Expect a quick return.
16 Ess Played forward and tried his backside off in first half then effort petered out as the Bombers took control; 11 disposals, one goal. 4
17 GCS Used in attack throughout and presented well. Booted three goals and took five marks. 6
18 WCE Looks a presence up forward. Made Barrass accountable more than once. 6
19 Adel Two goals as a permanent forward, great battle with Daniel Talia. 6
20 NM Seemed to be Magpies’ most potent forward early but after a blood rule, he just went. 5
21 Port Kept the Magpies in the game with four goals and provided a contest up forward usually while double teamed. 8
22 Geel Couldn’t get away from Lonergan and ended with one behind from four effective disposals. 1

2016 Season

1   Played in VFL trial against Coburg.  
2 Rich First half was superb for a player coming off an injury interrupted pre-season. Huge positive. 6
3 StK Looked best of the defenders despite finding Riewoldt tough to run with early. Provided a positive. 6
4 Melb Played loose at half back and did it well but a knee injury hampered him after quarter time. 5
5 Ess Floated around in defence and was steady. Rarely out under any real pressure. 5
6 WCE Got through without injury and was consistent. 5
7 Carl Had Jones among others. Took 12 marks but injured shoulder in third term. Came back but sore. 6
8   Shoulder.  
9 Geel Defensively solid and had Kersten’s measure when Cats came hard late. 6
10 WB Matched with Stringer right at the start and good all the way through. 7
11 Port Intercepted well at times and helped keep the margin from being even greater. 6
12 Melb Battled away until limped from field with knee injury late in second term. Came back but struggled. 4
13   Knee.  
14 Frem Very good on Taberner and won ball in his own right. Important in defence. 8
15 Carl Impressive again. All-Australian honours looming? Read the play beautifully. 8
16 GWS Solid without dominating in defence; combines well with Howe. 6
17 Adel Played higher up the ground on Lynch and won his own footy across half back. 6
18 NM On Petrie and had his share of the ball although North man was influential. 5
19 WCE Sore ribs in second term but came back on and strong in the air with seven marks. 6
20 Rich Injured knee early and looked severely hampered despite playing on. 4

3 VFL Managed through the game but pulled up sore and has nicked a quad. Again.

21 Rich Horrible. Didn’t touch it up forward and Vickery kicked goals on him late. 2
22 Geel Beat Walker and then had Vardy. Did what was asked as a key defender. 5
23 Ess Marked the ball well and read its flight forward and back pretty well. 6

21 Bris Pulled hamstring in opening five minutes and night was over without a touch. 0

2013 Season

1 NM Hansen matched up on him at the start. On end of bad head clash with Thomas. 4
2 Carl Kept the defence together in the first half. Too good for his Blues opponents. 7
3 Haw Knee injury in second but returned. Battled away but defence was under siege. 4
4 Rich Took Riewoldt and apart from the odd occasion had him covered in key win. 7
5 Ess Had Gumbleton in great battle. Covered him well given the scoreboard. 6
6 StK Spent time on Riewoldt and it was a tough night. Did better than Brown though. 6
7 Frem Tracked Mayne and took a stack of marks but kicking was unusually iffy. 6
8 Geel Looked shaky at times when pitted one-out on Hawkins (four goals). 4
9 Syd Matched on brother, who dragged him out of the backline, but did OK. 6
10 Bris Shifted forward in absence of Cloke and finished with three goals. Nice outing. 5
11 Melb Had Watts covered pretty comfortably. Then again that wouldn’t be hard. 5
12 WB Markovic lined up on him. Subbed off late in third term. 4
14   Thigh.  
15 Carl Once Waite went off he went forward to kick four goals in a key move. 7
16 Adel Conceded goals in first term which forced move to attack where he kicked two. 5
17 GCS Swung forward late after being solid in defence. 6
18 GWS Used forward again despite Cameron running riot. Two goals a reasonable return. 6
19 Ess Two goals in the third term critical in quelling uprising. Ended with three. 6
20 Syd Enjoyed a solid duel with Rampe, kicking two goals and managing four inside 50s. 5
21 Haw Stayed up forward despite Hawks height in attack. Presented well, but went goalless. 4
22 WCE Three early goals helped side off to a flyer and ended with four. 7
23 NM Used forward and made most of it to kick five goals in a fine effort. 7
EF Port Only two marks playing second fiddle to Cloke. Ball rarely came his way. 2

2012 Season

1 Haw Had Franklin and despite having five kicked on him he did OK. 5
2 Rich Matched physical strength with Riewoldt and blanketed him. 8
3 Carl Subbed out in first quarter after quad strain. 1
6 WB Used as a forward for three quarters and worked hard. Even effort. 5
7 Bris Held Merrett. Did some nice things at half back. 7
8 Geel Got on top of Hawkins then injured quad yet again and off during final term. 6
13 WCE Defended well aerially but Pies needed his kicking better to penetrate zone. 5
14 Frem Split duties on Clarke/Pavlich and the latter got him a few times late. 4
15 Carl Had to play on Walker in parts with no other match-up. Just going. 4
16 Geel Took first-gamer Walker rather than Hawkins. OK. 6
17 Haw Roughead kicked three on him but he stuck to the task OK. 5
18 GWS With 13 marks had a polished afternoon in defence. 7
19 StK Did a fine job quelling Riewoldt for most of the night. 6
20 Syd Has been in good form of late and carried that to Olympic Park. 8
21 NM Kept plugging away. Wrong-footed by a couple of bad bounces. 6
22 WCE Did a good job on Kennedy. Held him well. 7
23 Ess Lined up on Hurley at start and neither featured early. 4
QF Haw Marked well and did OK. 7
SF WCE Probably his side’s best. Controlled Kennedy and the defence from key post. 8
PF Syd Had Goodees among others including his brother. 5
