2017 Digest:   Played game one of JLT then rested for second match. Will play on weekend and is very much on track for a big year.

2017 Season

1	Ess	Worked hard through midfield on the outside. Second half work was very good and fought the game out to the end.	6
2	Adel	Roamed his wing to provide some drive before copped a knock to hip from Brodie Smith that severely hampered him.	5
3	GCS	Although got plenty of footy, his ball use was no of no use. At least made 7 tackles.	4
4	Geel	Tried hard to provide to run and carry the ball and easily among side’s best. One goal and 29 disposals a solid effort.	7
5	WCE	Influential with his ground coverage in second term then hurt knee. Came back after half time and continued to give drive.	7
6	StK	Started on wing but also went forward at stages. Unable to break the lines like we know he can.	4
7	Melb	Provide some run and rebound in first half then got going in final term again for some key touches.	6
8	Bris	Heavily tagged by Robertson all day. Ran hard but the Lion did nullify him to a certain extent. Was dangerous when he did get it.	4
9	Coll	Several typical breakaway plays among his 26 disposals. Kept pumping it forward.	7
10	Syd	Immense throughout, but really stepped it up late when the heat was one. One of the Hawks best.	7
11	Port	Effort was there but impact not commensurate. Only nine of his total 20 disposals were considered effective.	3
12	GCS	Tried hard but injured hip early and never looked right from that point. Effort was there but impact limited from 24 disposals.	7
13		Bye.
14	Adel	Not his usual dominant self, was thereabouts without putting his stamp on the game.	5
15	Coll	Wingman had a shocker by his lofty standards. Only 14 effective disposals and no goals.	4
16	GWS	Gave away a silly 50m pen. Got some treatment on the right side of his hip. No tackles – so defensively wasn’t great.	5
17	Geel	Unbelievably had chance to win game in final seconds but played on and missed the goal. Strong prior to that.	6
18	Frem	Kicked one goal and had 20 disposals. Ran hard.	6
19	Syd	His best outing in several weeks with 28 disposals and 12 marks.	8
20	Rich	Tried hard to provide run from a wing and gave something without getting arousal levels to anything worth telling mates about.	5
21	NM	29 disposals (17 to half time). Long kicking broke the game wide open and finished with two goals and 12 score involvements.	8
22	Carl	One of the Hawks best. Provided great drive from his wing and booted a great last quarter goal.	7
23	WB	Ball use first class from the club vice captain. Set up others and was running hard whenever he got the chance.	7

2016 Season

1	Geel	Unable provide customary run and dash on the outside.	4
2	WCE	Made some blues but they didn’t matter too much in the end. Won plenty of the ball.	6
3	WB	Ran his backside off. 20 uncontested possessions from 24 touches.	7
4	StK	Usual run and carry on the outside and kicked a nice goal on the charge.	6
5	Adel	Plenty of run and carry and had a good game.	7
6	GWS	Couldn’t sniff it on a wing. As quiet as he had been in any game in his career.	3
7	Rich	Couldn’t get into it for a long while but second half was instrumental in win.	7
8	Frem	Constant threat with his running and potent kicking and was best afield..	8
9	Syd	Seven touches in eight mins at start of third term to spark Hawks. Best for team.	7
10	Bris	Battled away after injuring his ankle early and gave the Hawks plenty of drive.	5
11	Melb	Lots of the ball coming off a wing originally opposed to Stretch. One bad turnover but good outing.	7
13	NM	North centred attention on him early and he didn’t feature til second half.	4
14	GCS	Hardly sighted in opening half (five effective disposals) then lifted slightly. Five inside-50s.	5
16	Port	12 handballs received outlines his innate ability to get out the back in space.	6
17	Syd	Copped a knock early but returned and played well. Run off a wing critical.	7
18	Rich	Not at his damaging best but contributed to the win with neat ball use.	5
19	Carl	Late-game speed and line-breaking dashes were significant.	7
20	Melb	Created run and rebound from a wing. Two goals and among the side’s best.	8
21	NM	Provided great drive off a wing and a key to the victory. Six inside-50s.	8
22	WCE	Collected 21 touches. His run was good.	6
23	Coll	Not as brilliant best but did enough when game there to be won in final term.	6
QF	Geel	Flat spot in middle two quarters then fought on. Missed shot to win game after siren.	5
SF	WB	Won a fair bit of ball but one inside-50 suggests attacking impact down.	5

2015 Season

1	Geel	Run and carry was a factor, particularly after quarter-time, helped ignite side.	7
2	Ess	Wasn’t given clear room to run on the outside which limited his impact.	4
3	WB	After limping in first term quickly resumed to have a prolific day.	7
4	Port	Two goals, seven tackles and 10 inside-50s.	7
5	NM	One of the Hawks’ best. Kicked two goals and outside game was impressive.	8
6	GWS	Started superbly and was damaging on the outside for most of the game.	6
7	VFL	Ill.	–
8	Syd	Gained plenty of metres when he got it. Would love to have his last kick again.	7
9	GCS	His hard running and incisive work put the Suns under pressure.	6
10	StK	Generally polished effort.	6
12	Adel	Put the score on the board in the last term when Cameron couldn’t.	7
13	Ess	Linked well at times and much better in second half after a quiet first.	6
14	Coll	Had Sidebottom at start given too much latitude. Nasty head gash.	7
15	Frem	Slow start but worked into game and enjoyed a strong second half.	6
16	Syd	Game 100 highlighted by great running goal. Relished space.	7
17	Carl	Run and creativity all over the ground a factor all night.	7
18	Rich	Lot of possessions and worked hard to provide run but often came unstuck.	6
19	WCE	Only four possessions in the first half. Finished with 16.	4
20	Geel	Quiet start then got going off wing. Ball use first class and added a goal.	7
21	Port	Gave the Hawks the run they needed after slow start. Probably their best.	7
22	Bris	Good contributor on outside before being handed the red vest.	5
23	Carl	Injured knee in third term and season may be over. Horrible luck.	4
QF	WCE	Couple of dashes but knee injury appeared to hamper him. Three inside-50s.	4
SF	Adel	Brilliant first-term running goal set crowd alight. Productive all match.	7
PF	Frem	Provided consistent drive off a wing and always a concern to the Dockers.	7
GF	WCE	In his element as long-striding winger. Perfect player for a Grand Final.	7

2014 Season

1	Bris	Ran hard all day on a wing and able to push forward for two handy goals.	7
2	Ess	Some nice runs a feature of his game that netted four inside-50s. OK.	6
3	Frem	Busy runner who got better as game went on.	8
4	GCS	Handy game off wing.	5
5	Geel	Speed and guile an influence all day for his team. One goal and 10 handball receives	6
6	Rich	Run off the wing was effective.	5
7	StK	Free-wheeling run down the wing damaged St Kilda.	7
8	Syd	Among the best with his run and creative work. Never stopped moving.	6
10	Port	Produced four scoring assists and five inside-50s.	7
11	GWS	Four goals off a wing were a key reason the side got the points.	8
12	WCE	Together with Hill, he gave the Hawks the outside run that West Coast lacked.	6
13	Carl	Despite work of Everitt he got involved without setting game alight near goal.	6
14	Coll	Provided good run off a wing. Kicked the sealer.	7
15	GCS	Long kicking in wet was a major asset.	7
16	NM	Jacobs had negating role on him and did it well. Moved forward but couldn’t fire.	3
17	Adel	Missed two opportunities he usually nails.	6
18	Syd	Run and creativity kept Swans on the back foot every time he got the ball.	7
19		Calf.
20	Melb	Kicked two goals from a wing and spent time as a deep forward showing versatility.	6
21	Frem	Won 20 touches but usual run and carry was stifled when it mattered.	6
22	Geel	Cats were able to thwart his run and carry for the most part. Still had an influence.	6
23	Coll	Three inside-50s to go with six rebound 50s. Work-rate and run first class.	8
QF	Geel	Drifted from wing into attack and was an influential figure forward of centre.	7

PF	Port	Tailor made for MCG in finals and booming goal looked like sealer. Key cog.	6
GF	Syd	Not sighted much before half time but then joined in the party later on.	5

2013 Season

1	Geel	Ran hard but lack of polish hurts him at times.	4
2	WCE	Treated for tight hammies but kept ticking. Clever goal in second term.	5
3	Coll	Produced an even performance but certainly didn’t set the game alight.	5
4	Frem	Gave great run off a wing opposed to Mzungu.	7
5	NM	Useful input on a wing.	5
6	Adel	Playing his role in the side and chipped in with a goal.	6
7	Syd	Disposal let him down a little but gave some drive off a wing.	5
8	GWS	Whiley ran with him in first half. Showed bursts of pace.	5
9	GCS	Showed pace but his disposal varied greatly in efficiency.	5
10	Melb	One great running goal a highlight of his effort. Always dangerous.	6
12	Carl	Well held most of the game by Curnow. Only two inside-50s and no goals.	3
13		Calf.
14	Bris	Pace and anticipation gave Brisbane headaches all day.	6
15	Geel	Flitted in and out of game and tried hard but rarely in space to run.	5
16	Port	Great game with three goals, clearances and inside 50s, and nine tackles.	8
17	WB	Didn’t have an opponent all day, career best 27 disposals.	8
18	Ess	Used his dash on occasions; a contributor.	5
19	Rich	Hawks’ best. Ran hard, won heaps of footy and had five inside-50s.	7
20	StK	Shook off tags to play an effective game.	6
21	Coll	Becoming an important component in this side with pace and work rate.	6
22	NM	Snapped a fine goal after receiving handball from Buddy to ignite Hawks’ charge.	6
23	Syd	Tackled hard and ran well.	6
QF	Syd	Interesting first half duel with Hannebery. OK and worked hard.	5

PF	Geel	Stats looked more significant than his actual effect.	4
GF	Frem	Started well but not allowed to dictate terms. Thumping late goal was crucial.	5

2012 Season

1	Coll	Hardly sighted early then sparked side with two goals to help seal victory.	6
2	Geel	Went with Kelly early. Won kicks and tackled hard.	6
6	StK	North Ballarat VFL discovery displayed trademark pace at crucial stages.	7
7	Melb	Began as winger. Kicked one long goal but not overly influential.	5
8	Frem	Ran well and won ball well.	6
9	Rich	One nice bouncing goal but made some mistakes and had zero inside 50s.	3
10	NM	Started well and gave plenty of dash. A bit quieter after main break.	5
11	Port	His pace was damaging along the wing and had five inside 50s.	5
12	Bris	Quiet day.	3
14	Carl	Sub who showed some zip in final term.	2
15	GWS	Started on the bench and had a solid game, but couldn’t capitalise up forward.	5
16	WB	Relished the space he was afforded and provided a link through the middle.	6
17	Coll	Even game. Attacked the ball well and gave some run from a wing.	6
18	Ess	Heppell matched up on him. Occasional bursts but patchy overall.	4
19	Geel	Four inside-50s but rarely found space to use his pace – four inside-50s.	4
20	Port	Gave his customary run and finished with two goals.	6
21	GCS	Started well and was a good performer for most of the day.	6
22	Syd	Not suited by a tight, contested contest and small SCG surrounds.	4
23	WCE	Ran hard to be a link man off a wing and used the ball pretty well.	6
QF	Coll	Used the ball well first half then drifted out of game a little but handy.	6
