2017 Digest:   Versatile defender featured in the JLT opener but missed the win over Port Adelaide. Not a lock for Round 1 but will be in the mix.

4 VFL Cut off plenty of Roosters attacks in the back half. Only played three quarters.
5 VFL Did well in defence to make sure Sandringham couldn’t bridge the gap. Had 17 touches, five tackles.
6 VFL 16 possessions and four rebounds in the Tigers loss to Port Melbourne.
7 VFL Good outing in defence. 13 possessions, but opponent was fairly quiet.
8 Frem Dour defender struggled to impact. Shaky at times with ball in hand but defensively offered what he could. 4
9 VFL Started back but went forward and looked to be carrying a niggle.
10 VFL Excelled down back. Continually chopped off Bomber attacks. 23 possessions, six rebounds.
11 VFL Not his best day down back, then went forward and wasn’t abel to get much going.
12   Bye.  
13 VFL Strong down back once again. In good form, just needs a spot to open up.
14 VFL Good in defence then swung forward and booted two goals. Nice contribution.
15 VFL Stoic in defence all day. Kept the Bombers at bay.
16 VFL Very good again in the back half. 18 possessions and six rebounds.
17 VFL Solid effort and didn't make many mistakes. 14 disposals.
18 VFL Best player for the Tigers. Dominant down back on Kirby, great presence in the air and used the ball well.
19 VFL In really good form. Solid if defence, where he plays a vital role. Also became a good target when moved forward.
20 VFL Bye.
21 VFL Started forward but couldn’t sniff it. Went back and looked better.
22 VFL Very good down back in big win over Sandringham.
23   Rested.  
QF VFL Up and down, but then steadied the ship down back in final term when Casey charged.
SF VFL Excellent down back to help the Tigers through to the Grand Final.
PF VFL Completed a fine season in defence. One of the Tigers best.

2016 Season

Played for : Richmond

1   Played in VFL trial against Northern Blues.  
2   Played in VFL trial against Essendon.  
3 VFL Plugged away in defence.
4 VFL Strong game in the back half to keep Footscray at arms distance.
5 Melb Struggled to get involved and spent large parts of the game on Watts. 2
6 Port Had a mix of Young/Impey in Tigers back half and lost them at crucial times. 4
7 Haw On O’Brien early. OK in negating role. 5
8 Syd Used in back half but didn’t make much of an impact. 3
9 Frem Kept it simple in defence. Not a night for anything else. 4
10 Ess Loves a sideways chip kick. Steady without starring down back. 5
11 NM Like all Tigers backs was constantly under siege and overwhelmed. 3
12 GCS Troubled by Davis in first half when he gave him too much room. Better late but not his best. 4
14   Hamstring.

16 VFL Solid in back half. Laid eight tackles and had three rebounds.

18 VFL Quiet day in defence but was handy when required.

2015 Season

1 Carl Liked to take a run and carry the ball. Hard to control Menzel. 4
2 WB OK down back without setting the world on fire. Made one bad error resulting in a goal. 5

4 Melb Tracked Watts and out-bodied him early on. Less of a factor in second half. 5
5 Geel Battled Kersten and did that well. One horror mistake in final term. 5
6 NM Battled Waite among others and not the worst. Did his job. 5
7 Coll Not his day. Everything he touched seemed to turn to dust. 2
8 Port Pushed forward to produce the first goal of the game. 6
9 Ess Solid in usual lockdown defensive role. Four rebound 50s. 5
10 Frem Started on Mayne until the Docker went down back. 3
12 WCE Started on Darling but couldn’t match size. 3
13 Syd Not a lot of footy down back but steady in the contests. 5
14 GWS Held McCarthy goalless in a key win for the team. 7
15 Carl Did his job defensively pretty well but not much going the other way. 5
16 StK Defender spent time on McCartin and was OK in low-key game. 4
17 Frem Did a good job down back for much of the evening. Stood tall in one-on-ones. 6

19 Adel Stuck to his task of stopping the link-up play of Lynch. 5
20 GCS Worked through a variety of opponents and was steady down back. 6
21 Coll Shut Reid out completely in first half and remained steady throughout. 7

EF NM OK down back but at times was isolated and found wanting. 5

2014 Season

1   Battled hard down back after missing some training with a calf.  
2 PM Had his hands full with Winderlich deep in defence.
3 VFL Tried hard down back in an under siege defence.
4   Suspended.  
5 VFL Used the ball well in the back half. A chance for a recall.
6 VFL OK for much of the day down back. Used ball well.
7 VFL Solid outing without doing anything spectacular.
8 VFL Bye.
9 VFL Just a handful of touches then rested.
10   Achilles.  
11 VFL Just 11 touches in defence.
12 NM Took some angry pills and threw his weight around down back. Quiet offensively. 3
13 Frem Not much offensively and did what he could defensively. OK. 4
14 Syd Had several different opponents in a defensive role. 4
15 StK Hardly noticed. 2
16 Bris Ran hard to be link player from defence. Just did his job which was important. 6
17 Port Played a role and took a big early mark, but wasn’t a big factor. 5
18 WCE Thrown task on Darling and while wet weather helped he played the role well. 5
19 GWS Barely sighted down back tracking Tomlinson. 1
20 Ess Not flashy but defensively stout. Role player who did it well. 5
21 Adel Started out as the plus-one in defence but never imposed himself in the match. 3
22 StK Did a creditable job on Stanley and also marked strongly and created in his own right. 6
23 Syd Used the ball well in his battle with fellow youngster Towers. 5
EF Port Had task on Wingard for periods, found that tough. Subbed out after one touch. 1

1 Carl Really solid defensive effort – five inside-50s and five marks. 6
2 StK Maister troubled him at times and was quiet offensively out of back half. 3
3   Calf.  
4 VFL Manned up Laidler in opening half before being rested.
5 Frem Defensively OK but offered very little on the offensive front. 3
6 VFL Mopped up nicely across half back.
7 Port Stuck to Monfries like glue restricting him to just one goal. 7
8 Melb Found Dawes a tough opponent early and had to be moved. 3
9 Ess Won some ball in defence but under the pump with his disposal. 5
10 WCE Battled Darling and did a solid job given Eagle kicked just 1.1. 6
12   Knee.  
13 VFL Returned from injury and had some good passages.
14 StK Started on Stanley then had variety of opponents. Low-key game. 4
15 NM Used as a third tall defender and exposed in air. Made some kicking errors too. 3
16 VFL Bye.
17 VFL OK without being a standout in tight win.
18 VFL Drifted across half back but gave plenty of room to his opponent.
19 VFL Worked into the game well at half back. Steady under pressure.
20 VFL Rebounded well from defence against a struggling Bendigo.
21 VFL More would have been expected, but struggled.

1 VFL Good effort across half back. Pressed his claims.
2 Coll Prolific kick getter early down back. 6
3 Melb Used in defence and did it well. Not fancy but hard around the ball. 5
4 Geel Tough effort at half back. Grabbed himself 23 disposals and five rebounds. 7
5 WCE Developing player who mixed bad with good. Looks a prospect. 5
6 Port Raking left foot kick was good getting the footy inside and outside 50. 6
7 Syd Quiet night. Subbed off in last quarter after some rare kicking errors. 3
8 Ess At half back matched on Hurley at the start. Better after half time. 4
10 StK Good game and had the better of Cripps. 6
11 Frem Not his best effort down back. Didn’t win enough footy. 4
12 GWS Had Cameron who caused a few problems and was subbed off late. 4
14 VFL OK down back in wet conditions.
15 Melb Had Garland covered and was good defensively all day. 6
