2017 Season

1 Ess Struggled to make any real impact in a number of roles. 3

3   Senior emergency.  
4 Geel Quiet early then did show a small spark up forward in second half when side was getting smashed potatoes style. Two goals. 5
5 WCE Lively start at half forward and gave Hawks some real energy in the contests. Corked thigh in third term but seemed okay. 6
6 StK Unsighted early other than nice mark on wing. Went back at stages too. Late goal, but needs to find consistency. 3
7 Melb Used across half forward. Flitted in and out of the game but in the end had very little influence. 2
8 VFL Poor start but was a touch better late. Still needs to get better to earn a recall.
9 Coll Late inclusion after a month in the VFL joined the first-half party with three goals, but kept in check thereafter. 5
10 Syd Snagged a goal and did a few good things, but teases more than a King St dancer at times. 5
11 Port Half forward not a great place to be when inside-50 count runs at x-x. As a result he touched the pill 11 times. Two goals. 4
12 GCS Floated in and out of the game. Looked better when he was coming from behind the ball rather than approaching it from forward. 4

14 Adel Was colossal in defence taking 10 marks thwarting many Crows attacks. 7
15 Coll Played down back again (on Fasolo) at times. Looking more comfortable by the week as a defender. Long-term home? 7
16 GWS 22 disposals, seven marks and gave some lip. Among Hawthorn’s best. Even performance across the afternoon. 7
17 Geel Down back again and was going well until injured third term. Returned to give what he could. 5
18 Frem Fantastic game in defence with four contested marks. Had a strange argument with teammates too. 7
19 Syd Brilliant game down back with 28 disposals, 88% of them to advantage. 14 marks to boot. 8
20 Rich Rebounded like the bed springs on a Spaniards honeymoon. Ended with 28 disposals in a handy performance. 7
21 NM Foot skills exemplary and read the play beautifully. 11 Marks, but also did the tough things for the team. 7
22 Carl Was targeted by the Blues and didn’t handle it well. Gave away plenty of free kicks which proved costly. 3
23 WB Antagonistic bugger who kicked one great goal and was steady from half-back throughout. 8

2016 Season

1 Geel Only two touches in the first hour and didn’t get much better in second half. 2
2 WCE Missed a few sitters but ended with four goals. Impressive in the air. 7
3 WB Held his nerve with three crunch goals in the last term. 6
4 StK Dempster tracked him closely, but got away for two goals and attacked ball well in air. 5
5 Adel Managed two goals and looked lively but generally well held. 4
6 GWS Frozen out in forward 50 and had a tough night. 3
7 Rich Matched up with Morris. Horrible turnover in second term, but brilliant goal at end. 5
8 Frem Grabbed 10 marks but usage by foot was poor. 4
9 Syd Jumped high and tackled strongly early, but disappeared in second half. 3
10 Bris Worked his way into the game after a poor first half. 3
11 Melb Started back then went forward in third term. Minimal impact overall. 3
13 NM Pivotal to Hawk turnaround and third quarter helped turn match. Five goals. 7
14 GCS Two first-half goals from strong marks and three for the game. Dead-eye Dick. 6
16 Port One of the best six-disposal games ever had, in the opponent’s face all game. 5
17 Syd Found going tough on Grundy. Two marks and no goals. Great learning tool. 2
18 Rich Made most of limited chances to kick three goals from seven kicks. 6
19 Carl Continues to grow in stature at both ends of the ground. Provides some spunk. 6
20 Melb Frost and others had his measure in a battling display. No goals and three marks. 3

23 Coll One final-term goals but well held for most of the day. Three marks. 4

2 Ess Sub. Kicked a goal and worked hard as a lead up forward. 4

4 VFL Things didn’t go his way, but worked hard to create for others.

6 VFL Just 10 touches and a goal against Werribee.
7 VFL Struggled to get into the game across half forward.
8 VFL Broke game open in second term. The difference with five goals.
9 VFL Very well held. Just eight touches and goalless.
10 VFL Back in form with two goals and some great marks.
11 VFL Bye.
12 VFL Fantastic in attack with five goals
13 VFL Unable to back up last week’s form. Inconsistent effort.
14 VFL Worked hard in attack but things didn’t always fall his way.
15 VFL Worked up in midfield to get hands on ball – 21 possessions.
16 VFL Plenty of ball at half forward and rewarded with thee goals.
17 VFL Good four-quarter effort in a losing team.
18 VFL Goalless but workrate was good for much of the day.

1   Box Hill didn’t play.  
2 VFL Good first up effort at this level with two goals.
3 VFL Led up well from half forward but didn’t have a big impact.
4 VFL Competed hard and thought he’d kicked the matchwinner.
5 VFL Played his role well and continues to impress.
6 VFL Worked hard at half forward and attacked the ball with ferocity.

9 VFL Quieter this week and was paid close attention by Tiger backs.
10 VFL Just 10 touches and 0.2 at half forward.
11 VFL Bye.
12 VFL 11 touches but couldn’t get into the game.

16 VFL Took a nice grab but didn’t have a great day.
