2017 Season

1 Bris Fought an even battle with Martin in the ruck, and follow up work defensively was sound. 5
2 GWS Struggled to combat Mumford’s bulk at the stoppages but wasn’t the worst around the ground. Fair. 5
3 Haw Dominated the hitouts against Hawks and gave midfield a massive advantage at the stoppages. 6
4 Carl Got the better of his duel with Kreuzer in the ruck to give Suns’ the advantage in the middle. Good night. 7
5 Adel Fought out a great duel with Jacobs and gave his mids plenty of chances at stoppages. 6
6 NM Won plenty of hits to advantage in the early stages, but Goldstein gradually wore him down and did more around the field. 5
7 Geel Former Magpie was a clear winner in the ruck. Gave teammates first use and was able to link okay around the ground. 6
8 Port Held his own in hitout duel with Ryder, but the Port man was much more influential. Got a bit of the ball though. 6

10 Melb Controlled the ruck contests against Pedersen and McDonald, but needed to make more of his hitouts. 5
11 WCE Another wholehearted effort rucking for the most part. Followed up his tap work with well also. 7
12 Haw Got on top of McEvoy early and then effort petered out a little as big Hawk got on top. Moved well and kept working. 7
13 Carl Broke even in the hitouts but unsighted around the ground; just the three disposals. 3
14 StK Only shaded Longer in total hit-outs but seemed to do much more overall. 5
15 NM Took the honours against Goldstein, both in the ruck and around the ground. 7
16 Syd One of the few who can hold their head up high, 44 hit outs as he won the battle against Naismith 6
17 Coll Got the better of Grundy in their ruck duel. Around the ground good also. 7
18 WB Got the better of Roughead in the ruck and gave his midfielders a chance to supply forwards. 7
19 Rich Took on the bulk of the ruck work against Tiger duo, and held his own throughout. 7

1 Syd Six tackles to go with 21 hit-outs as he rucked solo. 3

7 VFL Looked rusty on return from hand injury. Improved a bit in the second half.
8 VFL Had the better of ruck battle with Lucey and work around ground was very good.
9 VFL Very good outing in ruck opposed to Meese. 24 touches, 30 hit-outs and a goal.
10 VFL Bye.
11 VFL Got the better of Preuss in the end in ruck with 45 hit-outs. 17 touches too.
12 Melb Lumbered about all day but was shown up by Gawn. Needs to learn from it. 2
14 VFL Made the most of undersized opponent to have 49 hit-outs and 19 possessions.
15 VFL Got the better of Wood in the ruck (37 hit-outs).
16 VFL Brilliant in the ruck (49 hit-outs) and had a team-high nine clearances.
17 VFL One kick then injured hand and was benched for remainder of the day.

20 VFL Marked well at times and threw his weight around in the contests. Good.
21 VFL Dominant in the ruck with 21 possessions, two goals and 59 hitouts.
22 VFL A strong presence again in ruck and had the better of duel with Pittonet.
23 VFL Took control once Campbell was injured in ruck. 52 hit-outs, 20 possessions.

2015 Season

Played for : Collingwood

1   Soreness.  
2   Soreness.  
3 VFL Good battle with Stephenson in ruck. Solid effort.
4 VFL Had 25 hitouts in interesting ruck duel with Bomber talls.
5 VFL Got on top of Minson early but the Dog fought back hard.
6 Geel Good return but his influence waned. 4
7 Rich Effective as a ruckman and found a bit of the ball. Handy enough. 5
8 GCS Not a big night. Missed a couple of goals. 3
9 NM 21 hitouts and a goal playing as second ruck and forward. Fair. 5
10   Late withdrawal.  
11 GWS Big effort one-out in ruck against Mumford. Might have just taken points. 7
13 Frem Took on Sandilands and started well but fell off the pace as game wore on. 4
14 Haw Had main ruck role and won tap count. 5
15 Port Impressive in tough conditions for ruckmen. 7
16 WCE Not a great day. Reported and missed a sitter at crucial stage. 2
17 WB Battled away in ruck but didn’t hurt Campbell when opportunities presented. 5
18 Melb Battled away in the ruck but needs to do more up forward. 5
19 VFL Took the majority of the ruck taps and got the ball rolling forward.
20 VFL Battled hard against Stephenson and Preuss. 37 hitouts.
21 VFL Two goals to go with 28 hitouts in ruck. Too tall for Tigers.
22 VFL Main ruckman with 45 hitouts and got ball going Pies’ way.
23 VFL Did the bulk of the rucking with 33 hitouts and a goal.

2014 Season

1 Frem Absolutely no idea when forward and looked only marginally better in the ruck. Hudson back? 1
2   Senior emergency.  
3 PM Controlled the ruck against Duom Dawam as expected.
4 Rich One of his better games. OK in the ruck but got involved at ground level. 6
5 NM Couple of moments up forward but didn’t hit the scoreboard. Subbed out. 3
6 Ess Grabbed a few second-half disposals and offered support in ruck. 3
7 Carl Useful input in attack and on the ball. 6
9 Adel Three effective disposals in 75 minutes of football and subbed out. 1
10 WCE One great goal a highlight of another learning experience. 3
11 StK With Grundy out took on ruck mantle against another kid. Has to keep active. 5
12 Melb Rucked OK but certainly not a big factor – four hit-outs to advantage, three marks. 3
13 WB Beaten in the ruck by Minson. 5
14 Haw Picked ahead of Grundy, blew up in second term. Copped fearful spray from coach. 2
15 Carl Huge. Had seven hit-outs to advantage to go with three inside-50s and a goal. 7
16 GCS Dominated the hit-out count and serviceable around the ground. 6
17 Ess Halved hit-outs with Ryder but no influence around ground. 3
18 Adel Beaten by Jacobs in the end but didn’t give up his wicket easily. 5
19 Port Broke even with Lobbe which was a win for the team. Some nice ruckwork. 6
20 WCE Battled Cox/Naitanui and struggled. Conceded 16 hit-outs to advantage (to four). 4
21 Bris Battled away but no match for Martin around the ground. 2
22 GWS Did some good work in the ruck against Mumford. Developing slowly. 5
23 Haw Started well and showed a few glimpses but beaten by Ceglar/Hale. 4

1   Rested.  
2 VFL Really good up forward and ruckwork was much improved.
3 VFL Took nice marks in defence, but lacked forward presence.
4 VFL Among the better performed Magpies in ruck/forward.
5 VFL Took some fine marks and provide good back up for Jolly.
6 StK Couple of nice moves but quiet then subbed out late in third term. 2
7 VFL Bye.
8 Geel Not sure he’s the answer. Lacks the mobility or agility at this stage. Subbed out. 2
9 Syd Opening goal but quiet thereafter and subbed off again for a small in third term. 3
10 VFL Played mostly forward and impressed with three goals. Huge late.
11 VFL Had 10 hitouts but not the same impact resting forward.
12 VFL Not his best game in the ruck and struggled a bit up forward.
13 VFL Bye.
14 VFL Rucked OK, but Port had the upper hand at ground level.
15 Carl Kicked 2.2 and was handy in the ruck. Best game for the Pies. 6
16 Adel Led well early and looked dangerous in first term then influence diminished. 4
17 GCS Not his night. 2
18 GWS The better of the two Pies rucks and got involved at ground level. 6
19 VFL Spent much of the day deep forward and kicked a goal.
20 VFL Big outing against Mabon. 32 hitouts and 20 possessions.
21 VFL Played key position at both ends in first game as skipper.
22 VFL Just the five hitouts in an otherwise subdued outing.
23 VFL Took some strong grabs but lacked any real influence.

1 VFL Struggled to get into the game at all.
2 VFL Played forward and only had a minor impact.
4 VFL Worked hard to contest but minimal impact.
5 VFL Best game this year in the ruck alongside Wood.
7 VFL Got better as the game wore on. Big influence.
8 VFL Played a few different roles. Serviceable again.
10 VFL Good battle with Daw and Pederson. Not the worst.
11 VFL Played forward with spurts in the ruck. Only fair.
14 VFL Worked hard up forward. Showed a bit.
15 VFL Rucked and spent time up forward. Competed strongly.
16 VFL OK without having a great influence.
17 VFL Tried hard throughout on a tough day for the Pies.
19 VFL Continues to show signs of incremental development
20 VFL Competed well against another giant in Sikora..
21 VFL Gave a target up forward. Also had 18 hitouts in ruck.
22 VFL Breakout effort as No.1 ruck. Beat Daw easily.
