2017 Digest:   The Norm Smith medallist enjoyed a relatively clear run over summer. Expect contract speculation to ramp up as year goes on.

2017 Season

1	Coll	Started forward, switched back in second half – wherever he went, he won the footy. Bulldogs' best.	8
2	Syd	Great first half helped side get back into game after Swans got the jump. Went out of it to a degree after main break.	6
3	Frem	Played forward and back. Kicked one goal from 29 disposals.	7
4	NM	Burst from half-back on occasions and when he got it used it well but coach would have liked him to get it more.	5
5	Bris	Gave his all as a rebounding defender and among the best with 28 touches and a goal.	8
6	GWS	Combination of speed, guile and skill killed Giants in first half then he touched ball just six times after halftime.	6
7	Rich	Fairly quiet start. Hurt hand in second quarter, but returned and was big in second half.	7
8	WCE	Had some big moments. Covered heaps of ground to gather 26 touches.	7
9	Geel	Run and carry in bursts and steady without starring. Didn’t cut the Cats’ to shreds like he can at times.	7
10	StK	Loomed ever more dangerous as the game progressed and had big last quarter.	7
11		Bye.
12	Syd	Swans targeted him and he went into his shell. Didn’t cope at all with physical attention.	3
13	Melb	To kicks in first half and seven for the match. For second week in a row failed to handle a hard tag. Struggling.	2
14	NM	Another quiet one. Seven disposals in opening half but did lift to end with 19. Better but still under the pump.	4
15	WCE	Copped the now tedious push-and-shove from Eagles forwards. It seemed to work though as he struggled again.	4
16	Adel	Unlucky to rocket into the post from a Tex Walker shepherd, but overall his running game was back.	5
17	Carl	Blues’ decided not to hard tag him and he was able to get off the leash for 23 possessions and a late goal. Better effort.	6
18	GCS	Not at his blinding best but got a bit of the ball when released up to a wing. Fair.	6
19	Ess	Kicked career-high four goals. Bombers didn’t apply any physical pressure to him and he relished that; 18 disposals.	8
20		Hamstring.
21		Hamstring.
22	Port	Stationed forward again, but also went back to his customary role at half back. Burst in and out.	6
23	Haw	Showed glimpses of his best as creative wingman. Won a few balls forward of centre and copped a face knock late.	5

2016 Season

1	Frem	Best afield across half back with his run and willingness to link up through the lines. Superb.	9
2	StK	Backed up last week’s BOG display with another very good outing in defence.	7
3	Haw	Unable to provide usual dash from defence; 17 touches but limited run and carry.	5
4	Carl	Tore hamstring while kicking a long goal in third term. Prior to that had been starring.	6

18	StK	Started coming into his own in second term.	6
19	Geel	Rebounded with some authority for most of the night. Did what he could.	7
20	NM	On Harvey at start. Kicked a mighty running goal and ran well through lines.	7
21	Coll	One of Dogs best early with run from defence	7
22	Ess	Pitted against Stokes who was prominent early. Gave constant run and drive.	7
23	Frem	One of the few players capable of catching Shane Yarran. Did well.	6
EF	WCE	Given plenty of room to do his thing running off half back and made Eagles pay.	7
SF	Haw	No impact early down back with three touches. To attack in second half and better.	5
PF	GWS	His breakaway bursts came at crucial times and he tipped the balance at the end.	7
GF	Syd	Bursts of pace from half back crucial in a battle of attrition and claimed Norm Smith Medal.	9

2015 Season

1	WCE	Two goals in three-minute burst in third term proved decisive in a tight match.	6
2	Rich	Drifted in and out but made a few darting runs and a handy contributor.	5
3	Haw	Used to match speed with Rioli at times.	4
4	Adel	Moved onto Betts in second quarter and held him til last term.	4
5	Syd	Provided great run and rebound from the back half with nine rebound 50s.	7
6	StK	Provided the razzle-dazzle running from defence which split Saints open.	7
7	Frem	Great run from defence, more damaging as others legs tired.	7
8	Melb	Shadowed by Bail and that reduced his effectiveness for most of the night.	3
9	GWS	Worked hard down back and did his bit.	6
10	Port	What he did he did well, he just didn’t win enough of the footy.	4
12	Bris	Went on to Green midway through first term. Took the game on.	5
13	StK	Kept running hard and looking for fast breaks.	6
14	Carl	Blues’ tried to negate his run, but found a way to link up from defence.	6
15	GCS	Matera was a handful at times but run was important late in surge.	6
16	Geel	Provided some great run from half back and used the ball brilliantly.	7
17	Coll	Had Kennedy covered and provided customary dash.	6
18	Ess	Creative running from defence to wing gave team great drive.	7

21	WCE	Didn’t hurt the Eagles when he had the ball.	5
22	NM	Shared tagging with Boyd on Higgins. Pace crucial late in game.	5
23	Bris	Started on Taylor who kicked three goals.	5

2014 Season

1	WCE	Struggled to provide any run and rebound and was never a factor.	2
2	NM	Shocking miss from 25m directly in front of goal late in game deflated Bulldogs.	5
3	Rich	Went to defence early.	5
4	VFL	No impact at all.	–
5	VFL	Battled to have an impact and ball use wasn’t great.	–
6	VFL	OK early but really came to the fore after main break. Back in form.	–
7	Ess	Looked good when he had the ball. If he got it more he’d be really damaging	5
8	Melb	Started well but faded and didn’t use the right option enough.	4
10	VFL	Provided a link between defence and attack on a wing. 26 disp.	–
11	VFL	Bye.	–
12	VFL	Kicked 1.3 and was lively all afternoon in a number of roles.	–
13		Senior emergency.
14	VFL	Provided good run and carry to be among Bulldogs’ best.	–
15	VFL	18 possessions and a goal. Serviceable.	–
16	VFL	Quiet game but did kick a handy goal.	–
17	GCS	Late inclusion for Griffen and took his chance with 25 touches in best outing yet.	7
18	Ess	Slipped over a lot early but in end played a solid game. Slowly improving.	6
19	Haw	Prepared to work and run and showed initiative.	5

21	NM	Winger was on Gibson at start and did a low-key job.	5
22	Syd	Kicked a goal and was lively but needed to win more contested ball.	4
23	GWS	Good battle with Williams and was one of the instigators of melee.	5

2013 Season

1	Bris	Lined up on McGrath and made some good runs –one produced lovely goal.	7
2	Frem	Had a bit of footy but rarely in space to hurt the Dockers.	4
3		Senior emergency.
4	Adel	At one stage given the huge responsibility of taking the kick ins.	4
5	Geel	Four inside-50s and six rebound 50s a highlight of a great performance.	8
6	WCE	Matched up on Hill who wasn’t prominent.	4
7	NM	Fair game but one bad turnover set up crucial goal to Petrie.	3
8	GCS	Provided good dash from defence and worked hard.	4
9	StK	Outpointed Saint forward Saad and gave some drive.	6
10	Port	Provided good rebound from defence and kept Neade fairly quiet.	6
12	Coll	Went with Sidebottom early. Flashed in and out with bursts of pace.	5
13	Rich	Gave some run and took the game on, but not a major factor.	5
14	Melb	Tried to provide run off half-back line without much luck.	5
15	GWS	An early shoulder injury ruined his afternoon and unfortunately ended his season.	3

2	VFL	Gave good drive out of the back half.	–

5	VFL	Injured his knee and looks gone for the year.	–
14	VFL	Poor game. Tried hard but unable to get into it.	–
15	VFL	One of Williamstown’s best. Encouraging signs.	–
17	VFL	Helped nullify Werribee’s dangerous small forwards.	–
19	NM	Showed a bit with some zip from the back half early then faded. OK.	6
20	Rich	Not big numbers but at least played with some dash and spark.	4
21	Syd	A real positive for the Doggies. Played with a zest and has some pace.	7
