2017 Digest:   Back from two-year ban but suddenly finds himself trying to break into the AFL’s deepest midfield. It won’t be easy.

4	VFL	Toiled away through the middle but didn’t have a huge impact on the result.	–
5	VFL	Had 20 touches but was a turnover machine in midfield. Has to improve his ball use or it will see him chopped.	–
6	VFL	Provided a spark. Six inside 50s from 28 disposals and also hit the scoreboard with a goal. Positive day.	–
7		Foot.
8	VFL	Best game for the season in midfield with 30 possessions and eight clearances.	–
9	VFL	Good effort in midfield. 31 possessions to go with seven clearances.	–
10		Bye.
11	VFL	Had 15 touches and five clearances and was at his best late. Scratchy before that.	–
12		Didn’t play for Collingwood VFL.
13		Bye.
14	VFL	One of his better games so far this year. 25 touches and eight inside 50s.	–
15	Haw	First game since 2014. Kicked a goal (to delight of teammates). Faded as game dragged on but still had 21 touches.	5
16	Ess	Worked hard but was always under pressure and fumbled at times when it was costly; 19 possessions.	5
17	GCS	Had a hand in plenty of scores (three score assists), booted two goals and was handy across half forward.	5
18	WCE	Started on fire as a link between the middle and goal. Finding his feet at senior level again.	4
19	Adel	Pushed forward for a goal when the Pies had all the run of play.	4
20	NM	Had a fair amount of midfield time and took advantage of it. Finding more confidence with every game.	4
21	Port	Played his part in the midfield rotations with three clearances and three inside-50’s.	6
22	Geel	Quiet first half (6 disposals) and 15 for the game. Not sure how he fits into the team longer-term.	3
23	Melb	Hard worker who applied good pressure – six tackles, but didn’t get a whole lot of ball.	5

1	PM	Got through first game back OK. Rested for final term.	–

4	Rich	Sub. On late in third term and found a bit of ball when the heat was off.	2
5	NM	Got going after one kick in first half to play a role with some deft handling.	4
6	Ess	Sub. On early third term to replace Fasolo and quietly imposed himself.	4
7	Carl	Handy game off a wing without being exceptional.	5
9	VFL	Had 28 possessions and kicked a goal. Strong again.	–
10	VFL	Won his own ball in close and played his role.	–
11	StK	Made the most of his recall and an impressive possession winner.	7
12	Melb	Got into game in second term and offered something in the midfield.	5
13	WB	Ran hard and tackled. Had 22 disposals.	6
14	Haw	Struggled to have an impact.	3
15	Carl	Consistent contributor off wing-half back. Six tackles.	6
16	GCS	Starting sub managed 10 possessions and a goal.	4

18	VFL	One of the Magpies’ best in midfield after a slow start.	–

22	GWS	Massive second half helped propel Pies over line. The making of him at AFL level.	8

2013 Season

1	NM	In and under debutant had six clearances in the first half.	5
2	VFL	Stiff to be dropped but responded well.	–
3	VFL	Strong worker in midfield. Nice effort.	–
4	Rich	All 10 disposals came in first half and then subbed out in the third.	4
5	VFL	Strong around the contests and stoppages.	–
6	StK	Two effective disposals in first half and five for the night simply not enough.	2
7	Frem	Collected big numbers and won his fair share of inside ball. Solid effort.	6
8	Geel	OK at times with 11 contested possessions, five inside-50s, five clearances.	6
9	VFL	Continued to work hard throughout. Spread well too.	–
10	Bris	Back in the team and worked well through midfield to finish with nice numbers.	6
11	Melb	Great effort. Won eight cont possessions and kicked two goals.	7
12	WB	Lively type who kicked a nice goal and contributed.	5
14	Port	Ended up with plenty of the footy but little influence on proceedings.	6
15	Carl	Had 12 disposals in first half and while faded a tad he did his bit – five clearances.	6
16	Adel	Sub came on in final term and ran with Dangerfield.	2
17	GCS	Continues to be a valuable contributor.	6
18	GWS	Did a lot of in-close work but disposal efficiency (50) was ordinary.	4
19	Ess	Sub. Only time for a handful of disposals when result was done and dusted.	1
20	Syd	With eight inside 50s, he had a big say when the game was in the balance.	6
21	Haw	Decent effort with seven inside 50s and a goal. Can hold his head high in defeat.	6
22	WCE	Replaced Beams. Huge first half netted 22 disposals. His best game for the club.	8
23	NM	Finished off solid season with another good effort. Two goals and nine cont poss.	7
EF	Port	Quiet night after a strong end to the season. Had some moments, but not enough.	3

15	VFL	Battled a touch in second game from long injury layoff.	–
16	VFL	Minimal impact until a heavy knock late winded him.	–
17	VFL	Best game since return from injury. Well deserved.	–
19	VFL	Used the ball well to set up Magpie attacks.	–
20	VFL	One of the few Magpies winners in big loss to Zebras.	–
21	VFL	In good form at present after tough year with injury.	–
22	VFL	Worked into the game to continue his late year form.	–
