2017 Digest:   Solid first season at Cats, soured by horror preliminary final performance. At 27 still has something to prove. Form good.

2017 NAB Cup:  

2017 Season

1 Frem Kicking was a little off but had the better of Kersten all night. Steady effort without starring. 5
2 NM Rotated through a variety of opponents. Struggled early then found feet late to kick a goal and defend grimly at the death. 5
3 Melb Got into the game very early then drifted out. Injured? Came to bench a few times and looked slightly off. 2
4 Haw Did the job down back all day and at one stage slipped forward to snag a goal. 6
5 StK Swept across defence courtesy of his play reading was a feature of a really solid performance. 7
6 Coll Had job on Moore who caused him some issues, particularly in the first half. Battled hard and certainly not the worst. 6
7   Chest.  
8   Ribs.  
9 WB After two games out with a rib injury was steady down back playing predominantly on Cloke. Stats modest but played his role. 6
10 Port Battled Dixon for the most part and trailed him too often. Did win some footy so was able to influence flow that way. 5
11 Adel Thrown task on Walker and was superb in not only beating him but providing some offence when he could. 7
12   Bye.  
13 WCE Darling gave him troubles and at times he gave way too much space. Never stopped trying but didn’t set world on fire. 4
14   Groin.  
15 GWS Patton caused him some issues but didn’t wane with effort all night. Took a couple of nice contested marks. 5
16 Bris Saved his best for last with 11 of his 27 disposals in final quarter to help out the icing on the cake. 7
17 Haw Huge again down back with 23 possessions and continually got in the way when Hawks went forward. 7
18 Adel Had the role on Lynch but struggled in game 150. Fumbled at times and not the influence of previous weeks. 4
19 Carl Had Casboult at times and mixed good and bad early but got on top as the game dragged on. Used ball well when he got it. 5
20 Syd Horror night. Reid hammered him early and made some mistakes in the back half. Not his night despite 23 possessions. 4
21 Rich Intercepted well with 8 marks and 19 disposals. Played the lose man in defence effectively. One of the Cat’s best. 8
22 Coll Moore troubled him at times with his athleticism. Provided some rebound of his own with 20 touches and six marks. 6
23 GWS Loose across half back at times and played role well. Stats not massive but gave enough to the effort. 5
QF Rich Couldn’t get into the game at all as a defender and had a horror night; five kicks. 2
SF Syd Played the loose role like better than someone who perfected the loose role. Sydney allowed him to play it. 8
PF Adel Team tried to jag him loose in defence and pushed forward late. Not his fault team was crushed. 4

2016 Season

1 Haw Defensively handy and not much offensively despite one last-term goals. 3
2 GWS Didn’t set world on fire but did play better than he did the previous week. Steady. 5
3 Bris Played a role down back but yet to influence a game to any great degree offensively. 4
4 Ess Best game for the Cats sweeping across half back and third-man up. Ten marks. 7
5   Managed.  
6 GCS Grabbed nine marks but had 18 of 21 disposals during the second-half romp. 7
7 WCE What he did was done with a touch of class. Marked the ball with sure hands. 5
8 Adel Got on top of Walker after quarter time in a superb defensive display. 8
9 Coll Took Moore in a good battle. Mixed good and bad in poorest game for a month. 4
10 Carl One of side’s best against former side. Took eight marks (two contested). 7
11 GWS Read flight of ball brilliantly and helped keep Patton/Lobb quiet. Key player. 8
12 NM Had Brown covered and defensively was superb. Showed courage at times. 6
13 WB Patrolled half back with aplomb and among the Cats’ best in a steady performance. 8
14 StK Cats’ best. Grabbed 10 marks and patrolled half back with a poise and calmness. 8
16 Syd Took Richards and OK defensively but could provide no rebound. 3
17 Frem Huge first term kept side in the game. Knocked out in marking contest in third term. 5

20 Ess Patrolled half-back with aplomb and was constantly in the way. 7
21 Rich Made costly mistakes in the first half but improved after main break. 5
22 Bris Used up forward and kicked two goals in second term. Just seven kicks. 4

PF Syd Played forward and did not have a kick in first half. Went back but clearly underdone. 1

2015 Season

Played for : Carlton

1 Rich Had a good start in first term but then cut out of it by Tigers. 5
2 WCE After a bright start ball didn’t go forward. Ended up in defence on Kennedy. 3
3 Ess Great battle with Hurley. Two early goals but was then well held. 4
4 StK Disposed of several opponents starting with Delaney and booted five goals. 8
5 Coll Not a touch in first half. Subbed off in third term with hamstring. 0

9 Syd Looked short of a run. Failed to hit the scoreboard 2
10 Adel Played best game for the year. Grabbed 12 marks and moved well. 8
12 Port Three goals from four marks in a thrifty display of forward play. 6
13 GCS Two goals, seven marks and competed hard inside forward 50. 6
14 WB Battled to get into the game in attack. Supply didn’t help. 4
15 Rich Struggled up forward against Rance but looked more at home down back late. 5
16 Frem Wouldn’t have been noticed if Walters hadn’t taken hangers over him. 3
17 Haw Horror night to be playing key forward. Never got into the contest. 3
18 NM One of many whose application wasn’t where it needed to be. 3
19 Coll Better than last week and attacked ball well in air despite being goalless. 6
20 Bris Didn’t make the most of limited opportunities. 5

2014 Season

Played for : Carlton

1 Port Underdone In attack from start, but put behind ball later. Limping at end. 3
2 Rich Started CHF on Chaplin. Not a big influence. 5
3 Ess Played both ends without firing. A lack of pre-season base is seriously hurting. 2
4 Melb Struggled forward and went back late with a similar result. 3
5 WB Blitzed Williams in first quarter with three goals and got Blues rolling. 7
6 WCE A target in attack. Kicked two goals without being really prominent. 5
7 Coll Began as key forward and was in defence by second term. Had a shocker. 2
8 StK Played forward but struggled to impact in general play or on the scoreboard. 3
10 Adel Horror night. Couldn’t get into the game at all up forward. 2
11 Bris Kicked three goals but not prominent across whole game. 5
12 Geel One goal assist about his only influence up forward. Well beaten by Taylor. 2
13   Back.  
14 GWS Returning from a week on the sidelines, barely sighted. 4
15 Coll Struggled until final term when came to life with two goals. Only three marks. 4
16 StK Gwilt picked him up at beginning. Good game with four goals. 7
17 Syd Carlton's only multiple goalkicker with two, he is such an asset. 6
18 NM Thompson picked him up. Kicked six goals in hard-working display 7
19 Frem Had Dawson to contend with in a great contest. Kept goalless. 6

2013 Season

Played for : Carlton

1 Rich Vickery caused him all sorts of grief early doors and he moved to Riewoldt. 3
2 Coll Started back but switched forward and kicked a late goal. Fair. 5
3 Geel Battled Podsiadly and got the points over the Cat. Offensively he was quiet. 6
4 WCE Handy defensive job when on Kennedy and was reliable. 6
5 Adel Did some good things in defence but his disposal let him down at times. 5
6 Melb Marking a highlight of a polished defensive performance. 7
7 StK Thrown forward in second half and came into game late with three goals. 6
8 Port Generally reliable down back and positioned himself well with 9 marks. 7
9 Bris Failed to impress against his former club. 5
10 GWS Good at both ends and is developing into an excellent swingman. 7
11 Ess Generally good but made a blue at the end. 6
12 Haw Good in contests but some of his kicking from defence was deplorable. 4
14 Syd Kept the Swans at bay until late mistake cost a goal. Strong game. 7
15 Coll Used forward and back. OK but made a few mistakes with decision-making. 5
16 StK Looks best option as tall forward and with four goals from 12 marks was good. 8
17 NM Started with strong mark and goal. Put pressure on North defence. Finished well. 6
18 GCS The most dangerous forward all day and finished with four goals. 7
19 Frem Dawson tracked him closely but still presented and ended with two goals. 5
20 WB Roughead wore him tightly and was only able to break free sporadically. 5
21 Rich Kept the Blues in it early and provided a strong contest up forward. 6
22 Ess Lifted in the third but failed to convert his opportunities. 5
23 Port Started down back on Lobbe before switching to attack. 3
EF Rich Picked up Vickery and did a good job down back. 6
SF Syd Steady under fire in the backline. 5

2012 Season

Played for : Carlton

1 Rich Overall good job on Riewoldt even though the Tiger got late goals. 6
2 Bris On Merrett and had trouble with him in the air 5
3 Coll Had the key job on Cloke and carried it out to perfection. 8
4 Ess Had his hands full with Hurley, then struggled to contain Crameri. 4
5 Frem Took Pavlich most of night and did OK. Kept him to a goal. 6
6 GWS Not his best day at the office across half back. Then subbed out. 3
7 StK Shoulder to shoulder with Riewoldt and actually kept him in check. 6
8 Adel Thrown forward in second half and at least looked like doing something. 4
11 Geel Took some nice grabs but faded out of game for periods – five inside-50s. 5
12 WCE Played as sole tall target inside 50 – two goals but only three marks. 4
16 NM Good in attack but moved to Petrie and helped staunch the flow. 5
