2014 Digest:   Started 2013 as the club’s first-choice key defender but spent a long time on the sidelines thanks to an arm injury in Round 4. Never able to regain his place and managed a handful of outings in the NEAFL.

2014 NAB Cup:   Did what was required down back. Important structural piece if Thompson is to miss.

2014 Season

1 Rich Did a good job down back on Riewoldt. Important structural piece on the night. 7
2 NEAFL Not one of his better days but tried hard.
3 Bris Did his usual job in defence and even spent some time in attack. 3
4 Haw Unusual deployment in attack. Contested OK when ball at that end. 4
5 Melb Plodded away down back. Handy when called on without starring. 5
6 GWS Kept opponent in check and his experience was valuable in defence. 4
7 NEAFL Defensively strong in the contest. Also went forward.

9 NEAFL Struggled a bit down back but continued to battle hard.
10 NEAFL Had his colours lowered and gave opponent too much room.
11 NEAFL Held his own and was a good contributor.
12 NEAFL Best game for a couple of weeks. Good defensively.
13 NEAFL Beaten on the day, although he still did some good things.

1 Adel Was the more reliable of the key defenders tonight. 4
2 StK Task on Riewoldt but was moved. Struggled with or without the ball. 3
3 Ess Good battle with Hurley all night and would be happy with his efforts. 5
4 Bris OK on Brown to half time. Then struggled as did the entire backline. 5
5 NM Battled well and held his own against with Edwards and Petrie. 5
6 Frem Put in a huge effort in defence, particularly with Bock injured. 7
7 GWS Great game marking and mopping up, also helped curb dangerous Cameron. 7
8 WB Got the better of Jones but the slippery conditions aided his cause. 6
9 Port Defended fairly well on Schulz but the weight of ball told in the end. 5
10 Coll Only Cloke’s inaccuracy saved him. One effort late versus Thomas was poor. 3
11 StK Outgunned by tall Saint forwards. 3
12 NM Has been a great acquisition for the Suns and was solid down back again. 6
14 WCE Tough day for a key defender as the ball kept coming in. 4
15 Geel Started on Brown then went to Hawkins who got away. Kept plugging away. 4
16 Rich Stood Riewoldt and had his hands full for much of the time. 3
17 Bris Did a terrific job on Brown, continuing his fine season. 7
