1 GCS Set the scene for the Lions with the opening two goals of the match. Contributed little thereafter. 5
2 Ess Worked hard both way and had some effect in curbing Merrett after half-time. 6
3 StK Didn’t have big numbers, but always plays with great heart and passion. Kicked two and was hard at the contest. 6
4 Rich Effective tagging duties on Martin and was also an offensive force, running off Martin to bag a goal. 7
5 WB Tried his guts out from start to finish. Won the ball, tackled hard (8), kicked a goal and had four inside-50s. 7
6 Port Bull at a gate all night and booted two goals as a reward for effort. 8
7 Syd Tasked with stopping Kennedy. Tweaked ankle in first term, which seemed to restrict his movement. Iced up early in last quarter. 5

2016 Season

1 WCE Took on Priddis. Fought hard in congestion. Never gave up. 7
2   Calf.  
3 Geel Tried his heart out. Seven clearances, 17 contested possessions and three tackles. 7
4 GCS Largely responsible for Ablett. Did OK but best efforts were when Lions had ball. 6
5 WB 15 of his 27 possessions were contested but lacked genuine support in midfield. 7
6 Syd Gutsy. Of his 28 possessions, 19 were contested. 7
7 Port Eight tackles and some very poor decision-making in front of goals. 4
8 Coll Totally unaccountable for Treloar and seemed to go chasing kicks. 5
9 Melb Tagged Viney and at least matched his output. Four clearances and three inside-50s. 6
10 Haw Lions’ best. Kept Mitchell honest in run-with role – 14 contested possessions, seven clearances. 8
11 Carl Torched Gibbs and collected 25 disposals. Never stopped trying to lift his team. 7
12 Frem Shadowed Neale for the most part and kept him under control. 6
13 WCE Great four-quarter effort. If only a bunch of his teammates had as much commitment. 8
14 Rich Went to Martin and tried rough up Cotchin. Day ended in second term after a head knock. 1
16 GCS Shadowed Ablett for majority and was his combative usual self. 6
17 GWS Opening assignment was Shiel who got away far too often. 5
18 Ess Did a super job on Zaharakis and did all the normal hard stuff in the midfield. 7
19 Port Unsuccessful tagging assignment on Gray although no doubting his determination in the role. 5
20 Adel Always flies the flag, can’t be questioned on commitment and effort. 6
21 Carl Plays his best against his former club. Big second term with 10 disposals. 7
22 Geel Shadowed Dangerfield in a great duel and flattened J Selwood along way. 6
23 StK Had the tagging role on Steven and tried to rough him up early, then he got away. 5

2015 Season

1 Coll Keen to put body on the line. Clear pass mark for his first game with the Lions. 6
2 NM Lacked poise and needed to do more with the ball, but kept going right through. 6
3 Rich Yet to settle in to line-up. Spent time on Cotchin but well beaten. 4
4 WCE Not much reward for energy spent. 5
5 GCS Typical bullocking performance, but disposal still hampers him. 6
6 Carl Struggled against old side but did find more footy after main break. 5
7 Port Gutsy and set the example with hard tackling and second efforts. 8
8 Ess Battled along against the tide. 5
9 StK Ran hard but not many touches for the energy spent. 5
10 GWS Hard worker at half forward and rotating through midfield. 6
12 WB Sub came on at quarter time. Gave his usual effort but had minimal impact. 3
13 Adel Effort much greater than stats reflect. Gutsy game. 7
14 Frem Tagged Fyfe and gave him little space. Beaten in the end but can hold head up. 6

16 Melb Shadowed N Jones and stuck to task well. Won of few to win his position. 6
17 NM One of only a handful of Lions who played four solid quarters 7
18 Geel Did what he always does and gave a contest. Blue-collar stuff. 7
19 GCS Did his best work when game was all but lost with 10 disposals in final term. 6
20 Carl Gutsy and desperate display. Set the tone that others followed. 8
21 Adel Won the battle against Dangerfield. 7
22 Haw Gave his all once again and rewarded with nice snap goal in third term. 7
23 WB His aggression and passion was infectious. 7

2014 Season

1 Port Started badly with poor disposal. Energetic but game laced with errors. 4
2 Rich Big last quarter as Carlton roared to within sight of a win. 6
3 Ess Why play him if he’s not 100% right? Won the ball but did zero with it. 4

6 WCE Tough when it really mattered. 7
7 Coll Looked like only dangerous forward early. Had a dip. 5
8 StK Used in third forward role and lifted after half time. One goal and three tackles. 5

11 Bris Tore in as usual but didn’t have big impact. 4
12 Geel Four inside-50s but lacks polish to consistently hurt opposition. 4
13 Haw Great game. Three goals and eight ferocious tackles were a highlight. 7
14 GWS Put in a tireless effort from start to finish to stand alone as Carlton's best. 8
15 Coll Battled hard. Team-high eight inside-50s and 12 contested possessions. 6

1 Rich Knocked senseless in second term by Vickery and was subbed out. 1
2 Coll Super overhead and as brave as they come. Never gave up. 7
3 Geel Ran with Selwood at times and did a fine job nullifying his influence. 6
4 WCE Kicked a goal but generally wasn’t a bigl factor – 10 contested possessions. 6
5 Adel Threw himself around like a madman. 20 CP told the story. Mighty game. 8
6 Melb Kicked a goal and won 12 contested poss to be a factor for the side. 6
7 StK Never a factor in the first half. Ditto second. Disposal efficiency woeful. 4
8 Port 10 contested possessions in his usual aggressive manner. 7
9 Bris Gave the Lions defence trouble. Spoilt effort by kicking 2.3. 7
10 GWS Another bruising game. Not always polished but wins plaudits for effort. 7
11 Ess Only a dozen touches before being subbed off at final change. 3
12 Haw Made presence felt at times but not enough of the ball. Did have six inside-50s. 4
14 Syd Like a bull in a china shop around the contests and played his part. 5
15 Coll Struggling. Used a defensive forward but failed to impact either way. VFL? 2

17 VFL Among the Blues best in conditions that suited perfectly. Hard at it.
18 GCS Put on a couple of bone crushing bumps in typical fashion. 4
19 Frem Numbers bely an ordinary evening. Turned it over often and not damaging enough. 4
20 VFL Responded fairly well to senior axing. Won a lot of contested footy.
21 Rich Intimidated the Tigers with his aggression at the ball and player. 7
22 Ess A typical bruising game. Coughed it up at times. 6
23 Port Unassuming performance from the Blues’ hard head. 4
EF Rich Looked gone with tight hamstring but back on in second term. Big impact. 6
SF Syd One of few Blues to have a better second half than first. Never conceded. 6

2012 Season

1 Rich Put his body on the line and got better as game went on. 5
2 Bris Lively in attack and in the middle. Better as game went on. 7
3 Coll Started on Maxwell. Excellent ball winner all night. 8
4 Ess Team-high eight tackles. Untidy with his disposal at times. 5
5 Frem Coach used his grunt through midfield – 21 disposals, two goals. 8
6 GWS Helped keep Giants at bay then a key to putting a gap on them. 7
7 StK Tried his guts out but wasn’t clean or damaging with the footy. 6
8 Adel Did well as nullifying forward on Reilly then went into midfield after half time. 4
9 Melb Great game. Crashed in, kicked goals, won contests, grabbed clearances. 8
10 Port Tough as nails onballer needs to be cleaner with his disposals. 6
11 Geel Crashed in to be a factor but impact not huge – one inside-50 and no goals. 6
12 WCE Struggled first half then lifted rating. Great third term helped side to get back. 6
14 Haw Tore in as usual and copped a knock to the head early. 6
15 Coll Aggressive and intense around the ball – 13 contested possessions. 7
16 NM Worked hard both ways and with Judd kept Carlton’s head above water. 7
20 Bris Didn’t get into the game at all but will better for the run. 3
21 Ess Left others to do the damage early and was quiet despite one-way traffic. 4
23 StK Big hit on Montagna and tore in. 6
