2017 Digest:   One of the finds of 2016. Had surgery on his left shoulder over summer but saw some action in JLT and will start as No.1 ruck.

1 Port Monster ruckman did some good stuff but was shaded by Ryder in the one-on-one match-up. 4
2 WB Got side off to a flyer with ruck dominance. Won nine hit-outs to advantage, six clearances and laid five tackles. 6
3 Coll Big ruckman not as good as previous weeks and well beaten on the night by Grundy. Seven hit-outs to advantage. 2

7 Bris Imposed himself physically in opening exchanges but Martin got the better of the ruck duels. 4
8 NM Couldn’t counter Goldstein’s ruck ascendancy or his productive work around the ground. 4

15 Melb More than matched Gawn in ruck which gave Swans midfielders a real boost. Had an impact. 7
16 GCS Had his colours lowered in the ruck battle against Jarrod Witts. Not his best night. 4
17 GWS Tight battle with Mumford, but neither ruckman had a telling impact on the game. 45 hitouts. 6
18 StK Okay around the ground, but well beaten by Longer in ruck duels. 5
19 Haw Struggled during the second half with a knee complaint, 21 hit outs. 5

5 NEAFL Battled to have an impact. Just four touches.
6 NEAFL Impressed with his workrate for a big man in the wet.
7 NEAFL The best of the Swans ruckmen opposed to Nicholls. 19 hit-outs.
8 NEAFL Height proved tough to contend with when in attack. Three goals and 28 hit-outs.
9 NEAFL Bye.
10 NEAFL Not a big impact around the ground but 31 hit-outs to give first use.
11 NEAFL Swans’ main ruckman with 36 hit-outs and got a bit of ball around ground.
12 NEAFL Most prolific ruckman out on the ground with 43 hit-outs and two goals.
13 NEAFL Controlled the ruck to give midfielders first use and worked hard around ground.

15 NEAFL Impressed in the ruck with 36 hit-outs. Laid nine tackles and chipped in with two goals.
16 Geel Young ruckman looks like a Viking. One kick, no marks. 1
17 Haw Mixed good and bad but certainly gave something to the effort – 11 hit-outs to ad. 5
18 Carl Played with a great deal of confidence in the ruck (31 hit-outs) and laid seven tackles. 6
19 Frem Broke even in the ruck. 5
20 Port Held his own against Trengove in ruck and looks to be a nice up and coming ruck. 6
21 StK Still learning the trade as a big man. 4
22 NM Competed hard against Goldstein in the ruck. Needed to do more around the ground. 5
23 Rich Rucked well – eight of his 16 hit-outs were to advantage. 4
QF GWS Took greater ruck load when Tippett was off – 19 hit-outs, but Mumford had his measure. 4
SF Adel Battled hard in ruck duels against Jacobs and did enough to allow midfield to assume control. 6
PF Geel Big young bloke was the lead ruckman. Nothing fancy but honest. Tackling excellent. 5
GF WB First quarter he looked like Gary Dempsey. Influence less in second half. 6

4 NEAFL Starred in attack with five goals. Dangerous all afternoon.
