2016 Digest:   Had a handful of nightmare days and frustration boiled over in a couple of incidents. At 33 some signs of age are there, but he is still a fine defender and a key part of the team.

2016 NAB Cup:   Calf and soft tissue problems meant no NAB Challenge games. Withdrawn from weekend practice match so short of a run.

2016 Season

Played for : Sydney Swans

1   Played in NEAFL trial against UWS Giants.  
2 Carl Had the debutant Curnow and made life tough for the kid. Solid return in defence. 6
3 GWS Did a good job on Patton then stopped Corr in the last term. 5
4 Adel Shifted onto McGovern after starting on Tex and beaten on occasions. 4
5 WCE A flawless game down back and capped it off with a rare goal. 8
6   Cheekbone.  
7   Cheekbone.  
8 Rich The helmeted one took Riewoldt and stuck to task although the Tiger was inaccurate. 5
9 Haw Crashed to ground and injured head marking just before quarter time. 2
10   Concussion.

12   Concussion.  
13 NEAFL Played first reserves game in many years and was a steady contributor.
14 NEAFL Bye.
15 NEAFL Defended stoutly in big win over Thunder.
16 Geel Played forward in a surprise move by the Swans. One goal, three marks. 3
17 Haw Used forward again but the experiment might be over. Managed five kicks. 1
18 NEAFL Responded well to AFL axing by executing his role in back half.
19 NEAFL Bye.
20 NEAFL OK at both ends of the ground. Took six marks (two contested) and booted 2.1.
21   Suspended.  
22 NEAFL Good at both ends of the ground. Six marks, two goals.
23 NEAFL Bye.
QF VFL Used down back and was OK without starring. Senior return looking long odds.

2015 Season

Played for : Sydney Swans

1 Ess Low-key game down back. 4
2 Port Won the battle with Schulz, restricting him to one goal. 7
3 GWS Won battle with Cameron. Looked right at home in the one-on-ones. 7
4 Frem Pavlich took the points in their battle. 4
5 WB Took dangerous Stringer for periods. Battled hard. 5
6 Melb Had Hogan covered when the game was on the line early. Went forward briefly. 6
7 Geel Battled Walker and did him cold. Enjoying a better year than last. 7
8 Haw Gave Roughead very little when opposed to him. Key win for the team. 6
9 Carl Casboult got on top of him in the third term but apart from that good. 6
10 GCS Had few troubles against inexperienced opponents. 6
11 NM Battled Petrie and kept him to six marks and one goal. Solid. 7
13 Rich Had Griffiths measure and gave some rebound from the back. 6
14 Port Struggling big time and then knocked out in a Schulz tackle. 2
15   Concussion.  
16 Haw On Roughead for most part and taken apart. Crude hit on Mitchell. 2
17   Suspended.  
18 Adel Illustrated his importance on Walker by containing the Crow skipper. 7
19 Geel Got reported for crude bump and in the end Hawkins kicked four goals. 5
20 Coll Matched on Cloke and looked under pressure early but stuck to his guns. 4
21 GWS Cameron kicked three goals, but the former Bomber was pretty dependable. 5
22 StK Matched on Riewoldt when Saint captain close to goal. Solid job. 6
23 GCS Thrown job on Lynch and found it tough at times but kept battling. 3
QF Frem Battled Pavlich and fact he kept him goalless suggests a solid performance. 7
SF NM Thrown task on Petrie and reasonable in stopping his influence. 5

2014 Season

Played for : Sydney Swans

1 GWS Stuck close to Cameron but in the end couldn’t prevent him kicking four. 5
2 Coll Battered and bruised afterwards, he probably shaded his battle with Cloke. 6
3 Adel Had his hands full with Podsiadly all afternoon. 4
4 NM Never stopped trying and one of the better members of a beaten backline. 5
5 Frem Had hands full with Pavlich, but just about back to his best form. 6
6 Melb Great battle with Dawes. Kept him to one goal, a win for the team. 7
7 Bris Better than stats suggest. Had the better of Merrett. 6
8 Haw Played on everyone and did the job pretty well all night. 6
9 Ess Had hands full with Ryder at times, but continued to compete. 5
11 Geel Hawkins kicked three on him but when game was on line he was brilliant. 6
12 GCS Found Lynch a tough matchup at times, but stuck to his guns to do the job. 6
13 Port Let Westhoff roam up the field then pick him up on way back. Defended stoutly. 6
14 Rich Riewoldt gave him runaround early. Then took advantage of pressure up field. 5
15 GWS Matched up with Cameron, it was a clear victory for the veteran Swan. 6
16 WCE Kept Kennedy relatively quiet until the Eagle got a late cheapie. 6
17 Carl Led the way with eight one-percenters in a lesson for Casboult. 6
18 Haw Had the job on Roughead and did OK until the Hawk’s big third term. 4
19 Ess Stood up strongly in defence with usual quality game. 6
20 Port Fortunate to keep Schulz goalless with the forward missing his three attempts. 6
21 StK Went to Riewoldt in second quarter and had a busy day. 5
22 WB Took Stringer and gone the job done with minimal fuss. 6
23 Rich Beaten by Riewoldt early, then kept Cotchin quiet when he went forward. 5
QF Frem Beaten by Pavlich. The Docker kicked four goals. 4

PF NM Petrie kicked three on him but when game to be won he was handy. 5
GF Haw Thrown task on Roughead and way ball came in he struggled to contain him. 4

2013 Season

Played for : Sydney Swans

1 GWS Took Cameron and he did well to counter him all match. 3
2 GCS Played his usual sturdy defensive role in his 150th club game. 5
3 NM Pivotal role as he shut down Petrie. 7
4 Geel Thrashed Hawkins in first half and then under siege – six disposal second half. 6
5 StK Had a physically demanding first half chasing Riewoldt. Moved off him. 5
6 Bris Gave away plenty of inches but always brought the ball to ground. 6
7 Haw Had Buddy and after conceding three early goals he did a fine job. 7
8 Frem Marshalled the troops in defence to frustrate the Freo forwards. 6
9 Coll Trouble with Cloke early then delivery to the Magpie dried up. Held firm later. 5
10 Ess Steady in defence but task was made easier by heavy going. 5
11 Adel Disposed of Jenkins but the ball didn't come down that often. 5
13 Port Kept Schulz to one goal and forced him wide on most occasions. 6
14 Carl Impassable in defence and rarely lost a contest, but conditions made life easy. 7
15 Melb Battled a variety of opponents but had a few problems with Fitzpatrick. 5
16 GWS Had fair share of problems containing Cameron in a rare off day. 4
17 WCE Continually marked opposition kicks and set-up rebounding attacks. 7
18 Rich Battled hard against Riewoldt but beaten on the day. 5
19 WB Started on Grant who gave him some testing moments. 5
20 Coll Played a trademark role on Cloke in his 200th AFL appearance. 6
21 StK Strong contest with Riewoldt but Saints star got away late. 5
22 Geel Beat Hawkins and among Swans’ best. Rebounded and marked well. 7
23 Haw Usual hard-working game on a variety of Hawk tall forwards. 6
QF Haw Excellent job on Roughead and did all he could to hold Hawks out. 7
SF Carl Took Waite apart in a brilliant defensive display that was a key to the victory. 8
PF Frem Took Pavlich (two goals) and did a pretty reasonable job all night. Can hold head high. 7

2012 Season

Played for : Sydney Swans

1 GWS Had Giles for large parts and had him covered pretty comfortably. 6
2 Frem Quieter than usual and had little impact on game. 4
3 Port Unheralded defender who keeps on going on the last line of defence. 7
4 NM Read play superbly and his judgment in the air foiled many North attacks. 6
5 Haw Fine job to stay with Buddy all day. 8
6 Adel Had his colours lowered by Walker, but never stopped trying. 5
7 Rich Battled well and probably came out even against Riewoldt. 5
8 Melb Had variety of opponents and did not seem fazed by any of them. 5
9 StK Excellent contest with Riewoldt. 6
10 WB Played entire match and repelled countless balls into the forward line. Brilliant. 9
11 Ess Picked up Crameri at the opening and stood up in contest with Bomber talls. 7
13 Geel Instrumental in win given the job he did on Podsiadly. 8
14 GWS Did all he was required to on a quiet night for the Sydney defenders. 4
15 Bris The general in an impressive backline, pushing for All-Australian honours. 6
16 WCE Conceded two goals to Darling but took four contested marks. 6
17 StK Excellent game on Koschitzke. 7
18 GCS Another great performance in defence. 6
19 Carl Continued fine form down back. 7
20 Coll Mr. Consistent put in another strong shift, breaking up Magpie attacks. 7
21 WB Played on Lake for most of the day and didn’t allow him to be dangerous. 6
22 Haw Fine performance down back. Should be enough to wrap up All Australian. 8
23 Geel Battled Podsiadly and stuck to guns pretty well given weight of ball. 6
QF Adel Stuck to task all day and pushed Walker up the ground 8
PF Coll Looked gone with early knee injury but returned and competed superbly. 7
GF Haw Franklin got hold of him in first and third quarters but superb in final term. 6
