2017 Digest:   Veteran Cat has quietly gone about preparing himself for 15th season. Does what he has to and does it with no fuss.

2017 Season

Played for : Geelong

1 Frem Wore McCarthy pretty well night and that was his main task. Will get warm as season unfolds. 4
2 NM Ben Brown caused him some serious concerns at times but soldiered on. Will be glad to have that game out of the way. 2
3 Melb Took debutant Tim Smith for a lot of the contest and apart from one mistake he was reasonably solid. 5
4 Haw Key defender made a few skill errors on a day where he wasn’t put under huge pressure. 3
5 StK Had Riewoldt/Bruce and okay defensively but did make a few mistakes when he got the ball. 5
6 Coll Got the job on big Yank Cox and handy enough. Under siege at times and lots of his touches were cheapies out the back. 5
7 GCS Had hands full with Lynch who kicked 3.5 and lapped up the 71 inside-50s. Did what he could given circumstances. 4
8 Ess Hands full all night with Daniher and looked a little shaky at times. Second-guessing himself with ball in hand. 3
9 WB Had job on Redpath (two goals) and did that superbly. Got across to be third man up and positioning first class. 7
10   Bye.  
11 Adel Got the job on Jenkins and basically destroyed him all night. Who said he was finished? 6
12   Bye.  
13 WCE Went to Petrie and had him covered for most of the night. Probably the Cats’ best defender on a disappointing night. 6
14 Frem Battled McCarthy and had him covered from start to finish. Great game from the veteran. 8
15 GWS Had Lobb covered and defended well. Tried to sneak forward late to be the match-winner of front of goal. 6
16 Bris Solid in his 200th game minding Hipwood and taking some well-timed intercept marks. 6
17 Haw Veteran had a quiet one. Didn’t have an opponent to play on throughout the day and only 11 disposals. 3
18 Adel Got thrown the task on Jenkins and looked a little jittery at times down back. Pressure was telling at times. 4
19 Carl Went to Curnow on occasions then had 'Big Meat' Casboult. Copped knee to back in third term but returned to relief of fans. 4
20 Syd Battled Franklin all night and again took the honours. Franklin’s only goal came from a stoppage in the second term. 8
21 Rich Great tussle with Riewoldt. Found a mountain of the ball for a key defender and was pivotal in the last term. 7
22 Coll Had the task on Reid and defensively had him covered. Restricted the Magpie forward to four effective touches and no goals. 7
23 GWS Had Cameron/Patton at various times. Did what he had to on the last line. 5
QF Rich Battled Riewoldt and did a pretty good given weight of ball going the other way. One of Cats better players. 6

PF Adel Great career ended in a fizzle but he can hold his head high for what he’s achieved. 4

2016 Season

Played for : Geelong

1 Haw Great battle with Gunston whom he kept to three goals, although two not his fault. 5
2 GWS Battled Lobb among others in steady display. Does his job. 5
3   Calf.  
4 Ess Cats’ best. Kept Daniher goalless in a fine defensive performance. 8
5 Port Battled Dixon and did that job pretty well all night. In pretty solid form. 6
6 GCS Gave away two early goals to Lynch from free kicks but then steadied. Rarely under pressure. 3
7 WCE Battled Kennedy and for the most part did a fine job nailing him down. 6
8 Adel Night ended five minutes into first term when concussed in marking contest. 0
9   Concussion.  
10 Carl Battled away on Casboult and kept him to one goal from four marks. Did his job. 6
11 GWS Superb defensive job on Lobb and got in way of Giants when he could. 7
12 NM After conceding early goal to Petrie he got on top and won the battle. 7
13 WB Took Roughead/Campbell and did a brilliant job nullifying the pair. Strong game. 6
14 StK Battled McCartin and kept him to one goal from six kicks. Played his role well. 6
16 Syd Kept Franklin to one goal which was a fine performance given score line. 7
17 Frem Kept Pavlich to one goal and steady throughout. Got into good spots. 6
18 Adel Took Walker to the cleaners. Kept him to three marks and not goals. 7
19 WB Battled Boyd who kicked three goals but two weren’t his fault. Steady. 5
20 Ess Daniher caused him some problems and trailed him up at times. 4
21 Rich Battled Vickery and was able to win that battle overall. 5
22 Bris Battled Hipwood and had the youngster covered. Did his job down back. 6
23 Melb Gave Hogan a dead-set bath. Rarely under pressure in a comfortable day. 6
QF Haw Took Gunston and found that tough. Huge last term was critical in the win. 5
PF Syd Battled Franklin (two goals) and certainly not the worst. Will we see him again? 4

2015 Season

Played for : Geelong

1 Haw Battled Gunston and did pretty well given how much footy was against. 6
2 Frem Battled Pavlich who got away enough. Tough day at the office. 4
3 GCS Great battle with Lynch then carted from field after heavy knock in third. 5
4   Concussion.  
5 Rich Had the better of Riewoldt despite Tiger kicking three goals. 6
6 Coll Got better of Cloke in key win for the Cats. Great way to celebrate game 150. 7
7 Syd Battled Franklin and while beaten he stuck to the task best he could. 5
8 Carl Gave Jones a bath and found time to drift forward for a goal. 6
9 WCE Battled hard on variety of players. Did what he could under pressure. 5
10 Ess Had Daniher covered and at one point pushed forward for a goal. 6
11 Port Beat Schulz in what was an important win in a tight game. 7
12 Melb Kept Dawes goalless and that was his main priority. 6
15 NM Took Waite who got off the chain a few times to hurt the Cats. 4
16 WB Had job on Boyd and kept him to five effective disposals and no goals. 7
17 GWS Came off his man to help Taylor curb Cameron in a heady defensive display. 6
18 Bris Freeman took a couple of marks but he was his master for most part. 7
19 Syd Gave Reid a bath and pushed up ground to get involved when he could. 8
20   Ill.  
21 StK Had hands full with Bruce and co but battled away. Hit target with every touch. 5
22 Coll Probably his worst game of the year. 2
23 Adel Kept Jenkins to one goal and put in much improved performance. 6

2014 Season

Played for : Geelong

1 Adel Took Podsiadly and kept him goalless in a key win for the team. 6
2 Bris Had job on Close and gave him a short back and sides. 6
3 Coll Kept Cloke to three effective disposals and no goals to be the Cats’ best. 9
4 WCE Didn’t have a whole lot to do after quarter time but held Darling well. 6
5 Haw Gunston’s athleticism troubled him at times but kept working. 4
6 Port Had the task on Schulz and did a superb job keeping him to one goal. 7
7 Rich Took Riewoldt and for the most part had him covered in a steady effort. 6
9 Frem OK early then went to Pavlich later. Never stopped trying. 5
10 NM Took Petrie but subbed out at quarter time after accidental knock. 1
11   Concussion.  
12 Carl Took Jamison early then Waite after quarter time and kept him goalless. 6
13 StK Took Lee then Riewoldt for a period. Steady but under little pressure. 5
14 GCS Battled away on Lynch and good early but in the end weight of footy told. 6
15 Ess Battled Daniher and for the most part had his measure in the contest. 6
16 WB Had to go to Crameri and able to keep him relatively subdued. 6
17 Melb Worked through a variety of opponents and did well. 5
18 GWS Battled Cameron and kept him to one goal so won the battle. 6
19 NM Blanketed Petrie and easily in the Cats’ top five. 8
20 Frem Kept Pavlich goalless for first time against Cats since Round 20, 2004. 8
21 Carl Did a fine job on Waite. Will feature in the best and fairest votes. 7
22 Haw Fine job predominantly on Gunston. Won his share of one-on-ones. 7
23 Bris Thrashed Freeman before coached subbed him out for a rest in third term. 3
QF Haw Took some nice defensive marks and read the play well. 7
SF NM Did what he could again down back on Petrie and co. Held his own. 5

2013 Season

Played for : Geelong

1 Haw Took Franklin and did a fine job all match. 3
2 NM Battled Petrie and was moved after having four kicked on him – not all his fault. 4
3 Carl Celebrated 100th game with a win but did find Rowe tough to match at times. 3
4 Syd One of few Cats struggling for form. Looks down on confidence. 2
5 WB Good in second term but Jones kicked four and took five contested marks. 4
6 Rich Took Riewoldt and while not at his best he took steps towards it. 5
7 Ess From full back he kicked two goals (both from contested marks). Back in form. 7
8 Coll Great effort on Cloke whose only goal was a soda over the top. 7
9 Port Had Schulz (three goals) in a good match up. Steady without starring. 6
10 GCS Battled Lynch who did a few good things but he was handy down back. 5
11 GWS Found Cameron a handful and was switched off him. Not his best game. 3
13 Bris Had Brown most of the night and did a reasonably job quelling him. 4
14 Frem Didn’t have a lot to do and often found himself up the ground. 4
15 Haw Key win for team to beat Franklin. Great when caught one-out on star. 8
16 Melb Didn’t have much to do but had Fitzpatrick covered with ease. 5
17 Adel OK on Jenkins early then problems with Lynch in third and was moved. 5
18 StK Had Lee who kicked two early goals. Easy night given lop-sided contest. 5
19 NM Had Petrie and did well defensively but that stymied any offensive work. 4
20 Port Held Schulz well for first three quarters then ball started coming in fast late. 5
21 WCE Didn’t have a lot to do butgood defensively when on Darling/Cox/Kennedy. 4
22 Syd Had White covered with ease and marked a few late which was good for confidence. 6
23 Bris Had Lisle who worried him in the final term. 5
QF Frem Not his day. Gave away four free kicks and gave little offensively. 2
SF Port Had Westhoff at times and improved effort on last week. Looked surer. 5
PF Haw Did a fine job quelling Franklin whose only goal came early in the final term. 7

2012 Season

Played for : Geelong

1 Frem Pavlich kicked three on him but he did a reasonable job. 5
2 Haw Kept Franklin goalless (both goals were kicked while Lonergan off ground) 8
3 NM Battled McIntosh for a bit of the day and OK on him. 4
4 Rich Toweled Riewoldt most of the day. His one-on-one work was superb. 8
5 Bris Battled Brown and did a fine job. Claimed his third scalp of the season. 7
7 Adel Found Walker a tough match but midfield didn’t exactly help. 4
8 Coll Battled Dawes for the most part and kept him to a goal in a solid effort. 6
9 WB Seemed a little off. Injured? Sore? Competed OK but lacked any spark. 3
10 GWS Struggled early on Cameron and had to be moved. Not his day down back. 3
11 Carl Hit target with every possession and had three rebounds. Defensively sound. 5
13 Syd Started a little shakily but worked into it and had better of Reid most of night. 6
14 Port Kicked a rare goal and was steady enough down back. 5
15 GCS Swamped early but when side got on top he looked better. 5
16 Coll Beat Cloke hands down to be the Cats’ best. Fine effort. 9
17 Ess Found Gumbleton tough early but then he got on top and played his role. 6
18 Adel Had the better of his duel with Walker in a big win for the Cats. 7
19 Haw Fine game. Grabbed two contested marks and defended stoutly all night. 6
20 WCE Thrashed Darling and among the better Cats on the night. 7
21 StK Did well when on Koschitzke then copped huge knock. Returned but limited. 3
22 WB A few problems on Skinner at times but defended well for most part. 6
23 Syd Reliable again and found his way forward to kick a goal. 6
EF Frem Like many Cats picked a bad night to have a howler. Monstered by Pavlich. 2
